I've had a DMREX75 for approx. 9 months, and up to now it has performed faultlessly (except for the remote control), however over the past week, when I try to burn a DVD from HD content, using Hi-speed copying, it frequently aborts the copying half-way through, and displays an error message, which says the disk may be faulty. I must have lost about 10 disks because of this.

I use decent quality Philips +R disks, and at the moment the player still seems to copy OK using real-time copying speeds.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, what was their solution (or does it need to be sent back for repair?)

On the subject of the remote control, the original one had a faulty "down" cursor from the beginning, and it finally got so bad that I got a replacement. But now, all of the cursor keys frequently don't respond, and to try to enter a lengthy name using the cursor keys is a real chore. I don't suppose Panasonic has issued a more durable replacement remote that anyone knows about?

now you mention it my ex85 remote can be a bit un-responsive, however I had assumed that maybe the buttons needed to bed in a bit.

So far as copy to dvd errors go, I have only done one disk so far so can't comment. I wander if your Philips DVD media are high speed compatible ? I presume you are doing a 'high speed copy' ( you set the setting to enable this ?) I would try a different type of disk before sending it back. I would not assume that because they are expensive they are well suited to the Panasonic.

A word of warning - if you remote is a bit flaky now, it's almost certainly going to get worse. The rest of my remote works OK, it's just the cursor keys which act up, but the whole remote has a "cheap membrane feel to it".

The remote on this model is known to be extremely directional.
Is it possible that when using the cursors as you describe you are holding it at a slightly more critical angle and the signal is simply not being received?

Regarding the disk problem... It will be a disk batch or marginal incompatibility issue.

The best disks of all, of which I have yet to hear a single failure, are those produced by manufacturer Taiyo Yuden who produce Panasonic disks , some Verbatim, some Ritek.

The Dye and producer is more important than the the brand.

Check for the GY03 Dye.
