New regard for all things SCD
SimonChimp

Well I've been watching the singing thingy and it gives me new regard for the whole SCD experience, there's just something leaden about the TToU - it feels as if it's produced - and presented more to the point - by amateurs - Brucie we should never have doubted you! And it's got 2 demented foreign judges whereas 1 is quite sufficient, they make our judges look like pillars of reason and consistency. The Craig substitute is cuddly though and the Arlene is lovely! 'Tis also true that terrible singing is harder to block out than terrible dancing. Go Brendan!

Could Claudia do Big Brother!?

Totally agree - JTTOU just seems tacky and amatuerish by comparison with SCD. And to think people were even suggesting that Vernon Kay could take over from Bruce

What do you mean about Claudia? Could she be *in* BB? or take over the Davina role?

My husband and I both said last night how tacky the singing is in comparison to SCD. Tess and Vernon are truly awful - and Vernon thinks he is so fab. I'm really going off them in a big way. Also, why does he sit down to interview the contestants while they stand - ridiculous

Sorry, got so carried away with my rant about T&V that I forgot about the lovely Claudia. She could do anything she sets her sights on, I believe - a good brain in her head. But, I think she's at her best building a rapport with the dancers and celebs - and guests. I think that's why everyone misses the show so much now - it's as if part of the family has suddenly moved away

We definitely want more Claudia - but nowhere near Big Brother - too tacky for her.

I think it's probably because of his height. He could tower over some of the contestants in a way which would look even more ridiculous! And, possibly, threatening. I think Tess gets away with it because she's a woman; when she leans down, and in, towards the contestants, it's the kind of thing a girl does. If a man does it, he looks like he's peering down the female contestant's cleavage, and saying 'bring it on!' to the male contestant

Take a look when they're all standing on stage towards the end. They have the taller ones next to Vern and Tess, so the height differences aren't so obvious.

(Disclaimer: the above may simply be transference, as a result of years of traumatisation becuause I'm a short-@rse, who has worked with lots of ridiculously tall people! )

Watching Vernon and Tess, I feel absolutely horrified at the suggestion that Vernon could be considered to replace Bruce. He would give a very tacky quality to the programme. I think both Claudia and Bruce are irreplaceable for SCD. Could live without Tess though.

I also think the marking is ten times more inconsistent on this show than on SCD- although the programme as a whole has a less serious air to it, mainly because it runs over such a short space of time.

That made me laugh a lot. JTToU is ridiculous rubbish, but it's stopping me getting sucked into CBB so it is performing a useful service, and Mark B is a lovely singer

The only 'attractions' and I use that word loosely are Brendan and Mark; both good singers.

SCD is definitely premier league - JTTOU is more Nationwide Conference

LOL, I guess I'm the only one who actually likes Vernon Kaye. You think Vernon Kaye is bad, you haven't seen the Dutch presenters then, they're bloody awful!

I watched the first JTToU and I thought it was a cheap SCD knockoff really and it is not filling the void which SCD has left behind.
I had to laugh at the judges scores and the inconsistentcy though, Brenden thought the SCD judges were bad! Some would give 7s while others 3, whats all that about, it really seems quite shambolic.

OMG they're shocking I have to agree. I was VIP at an event at the HMH just opposite Ajax stadium and a group of presenter/soapstar types were there...between them, I don't think they collectively had a personality. Vern's just Vern...a bit camp and bit geek chic. He doesn't take things too seriously!

True, they think they're really something,...but they're terrible! I like Vern, I think he's hilarious, I was laughing my ass off Wednesday when he mentioned the contestants had to do Soul or Country, and his little song and dance while mentioning the Country, really had me laughing. I like a bit of camp, and geek chic. LOL

Do you think it's the same studio?

I think it might be and keep thinking, that's where the dance floor should be, those are the steps etc

But what about the spat with Chris Moyles last night? He was not too amused to be ridiculed for his designer stubble; talk about if looks could kill, and Vernon wouldn't let it go. He's an easy pompous target mind.

If anything this show proves that SCD must be prevented from major change in the presenter division.

i think the chris moyles banter was staged...apparently they are great mates.....seemed like a running joke to me

I think it is the same studio. When Brendan had a tantrum on Wednesday and did his favourite door banging bit, the door looked very familiar.

There's too much chat with "singers" before & after the marks, repeating what the judges have just said.

The judges saving a 'cupple' is terrible too - what is more infuriating - the public being unable to get rid of the judges favourite or the judges saving some complete bozo at the expense of more decent people (I can't say 'good'!)

Still I prefer it to the ITV soap thing which is taking it far too seriously - I prefer the concept of finding a surprising talent rather than someone who can already do something getting an opportunity to showcase themselves. Surely why the Mark, Darren, Matt & Colin types have done so well over the more predictably good dancers.
