Did Zoe and Ian dance the South American showdance? I know nothing about this type of dance so I'm curious, it just seemed to me that their showdance was totally different to Darren/Mark/Matt and I'm surprised if it was the same type.

I have 3 the cha cha cha, the jive (thought the music and dancing was amazing) and the AT by Vincent and Flavia

I agree that it was very different and used influences from many other styles of dance, but figures they used such as twist turns and promenade runs makes me consider it to be South American Showdance. Although it was a real mix.

Oh right. That's interesting. I enjoyed that one a lot more than either of the showdances this year as I felt there was more of what I would enjoy as dance in it.

More originality, more varied choreography, I agree, a very enjoyable performance.

Yes well , they weren't told to take inspiration from Victor and Hanna .

Tess suggested to Matt that he would be expected to shirtlessley throw Lilia in the air .

arddunol, this is so sad to read. Never, ever be afraid to voice your opinion, whether it goes with the flow or against it.

You will always have people who care passionately about their much admired professionals and give you reams of information as to why they are the best. Don't be browbeaten by facts and figures. 'Beauty in the eye of the beholder' is a brilliant proverb. I too had serious thoughts about Hannah's dancing and didn't like it, not because I don't like her, I just didn't like that dance. Perhaps I would have been moved to tears if they had danced to the music from Gladiator by Hans Zimmer, not by the dancing but the music. Hannah and Victor are undisputed champions at this style of dancing, all credit to them, that's serious hard work.

But, arddunol, I don't enjoy Karen's dancing but, hey, so what, its only an opinion. It doesn't move me at all. (Now, my husband thinks the real opposite). All credit to her for her fantastic career. Sorry, sorry, still chuckling about Karen's VW dress and the poster who say she thought that there was a toilet roll missing from underneath. I do shake my head about BBC dress designers!!

Becca is a very, very knowledgeable person about the dance but at times can state her opinions, in my opinion anyway, tactless manner, hence: "everyone else pales into comparison" and "Oh no, not another person who doesn't understand the concepts of Exhibition" Beg your Pardon! Says who? Sometimes my neck aches trying to look up to such a lofty opinion. La Rhumba, well, she is who she is! Don't always agree with her but, hey ho!!
Whether you agree, whether you don't, whether you loved it or whether you hated it, whether you can spell or whether you can't, your opinion counts. Keep 'em coming!!

Just a little aside, I loved The AT especially the guys dancing with a chair, to make that interesting takes talent and I am sure V & F put that in for a good reason. Well done.

This post consitutes my opinion. It was passively (or maybe even actively) asked for by the creator of this thread or the creator of a previous thread. It is my opinion. Being that, it is by its very nature, honest (as it's honestly mine, I'd not be saying so if it wasn't). There is no hidden code asking for anyone to agree with this opinion of mine.

Wish we could put this on every post we make

I agree Lady Boz, but I like her dancing and I kinda liked the dress... But that's me I guess LOL! I like the sound of that a little 'signature' of sorts that may help diffuse 'heated' discussions.

Thanks coronis, but that's what raises us up above all other animals, we can have opinions and are much blessed with the method to voice them.

I loved this year's AT demonstration, and this year's jive .In fact I always enjoy the professional demonstrations .

I fell compelled to comment about the remarks made about the relative standard of the current pro dancers on SCD . I found them condescending in the extreme , and full of implied criticism .They are only opinions and we all have those .

Some of the retired Pros , such as Karen were the VERY best in their time competing and it is impossioble to compare the professioanl achievements of those still competing and those not . Karen won so much and achieved so much , the Carl Alan Award , coaching awards , she even invented a step which is now accepted internationally .
I enjoy dances for a variety of reasons , for me performance is one of the most important factors and so I prefer some dances to others for that fact alone .”

Can I ask what step Karen invented? I'm really intrigued! Has she put it in any of her choreography in SCD, or is it too difficult?

My favourite pro dance was Hanna and Victor's exhibition dance. I'm big fans of theirs so it's always great to see them perform.

I think the whole argument was uneccesary. Some of the other posters on this thread have chosen their favourite dance and I might personally think it was a very average demo but I wouldn't say anything as that's not the point of the thread. So why there was the need to pick on someones personal choice and insult the dance so badly? its pretty pointless in my opinion.....arguments like this just go round and round in circles usually.

I can't actually match up any figures with the person who invented them apart from a few of Bill and Bobbie's, such as the developé in Standard, as they were inspired by watching a Ballet performance.

I'm assuming it was a jive step but that doesn't really help to narrow it down...lol. Often with dance, the individual steps by themselves perhaps aren't necessarily "difficult"... but it's the speed they are performed at and the combinations they form a part of that really ramp up the difficulty. So I'd imagine there's every chance we've seen it a few times and not realised... maybe even from other dancers since from a couple of random quotes it seems like it may be in fairly common use.

Must agree with Aeryn – the Cha Cha group dance. Know nothing whatsoever about dancing – just enjoy the spectacle very much – loved the energy and joy here (and because I am very shallow, the lack of shirts didn’t harm either!)
