K800i

I'm thinking of getting this phone in a couple of weeks as an upgrade.. Can anyone tell me if it is able to have videos uploaded onto it? So in theory, you could use it as a 'mini-mini' tv player? Logic says "extremely probably", but just wanted to ask

Yes the K800i accepts videos in 3GP format. It's a great phone by the way highly recommended.

Remeber though it doesn't come with a memory card so you will need one if you plan to upload films.

Cheers folks.. yeh I thought about getting either the 512 or 1gb card for that - its mostly as an idea to keep my young son entertained whilst on longer car jouneys. Not sure if the smal screen will make it very practical, but thinking back to those first hand-held tv's they weren't much bigger I think!

I'll be able to convert formats won't I, if I can't find them in GP?

I wouldn't bother planning on using it (or others) to view lengthy videos.

Although the screen is good, videos are blocky when played back, and the screen wouldn't do anyones eyes any good if viewed for a long time.

The phone's features are brilliant. As with all Sony Ericssons, the menu is operated primarily by the joystick, which is good once you've got used to it. Be warned though, that SE's joysticks have a tendancy of becoming quite tempremental after a few months of heavy-ish use. Do your best to keep it clean and it'll last a while longer. If, just before the 12 (or 18) months is up, you find it is becoming troublesome, have it repaired by your network.

The camera is brilliant, with auto-focus, flash and "Best Pic". I've taken some good pictures in various settings, from sunny outdoor shots to dark concerts and all have come out well.

It all depends what else you're looking for in a phone really.

Yes the camera is good but unlike the advert the camera doesn't take an instant picture there is a 3-4 second delay between pressing the capture button and actually taking the picture so you wouldn't actually be able to take a picture of something out of the blue.

Doesn't the 'best pic' feature compensate for this though?

No because there's still a "delay" before the Best Pic pictures are taken! Don't let this put you off the phone though because the quality is great and the delay is due to the camera focussing (but as I said not good for spontaneous photos).

Yes it does take photos like the advert.

It appears that you may have a faulty phone. I just took a photo of my watch as the secon hand hit the 60 second mark and this is the result, as you can see there is no shutter lag at all. Tried it with the best pic setting on ant I get pictures from 1 second before to 1 second after. ( sorry for the quality rushed the picture ).

I've just done that and it took one second to do the whole thing. It still certainly isn't instant like on the advert where you press the button and it appears on your screen.
