The American deal is with a particular carrier, I'd personally see Orange as the ideal bed fellow given that they often present themselves as a premium product, they'd also be able to have good tie ins with their broadband and iptv products. Then there is T-Mobile as well which has taken to promoting 'trendy' products. I think Vodafone and 02 are probably a bit corporate for Apple but at the end of the day it's probably going to be down to who offers them the best deal with discounts and promotion.
Personally I'd hope for Orange given the quality of reception round my area it's the only network I can use out in sticks and in my office reliably.
The phone itself is going to be sold on the interface the other features are secondary and outclassed by other already available handsets, it will be interesting to see if Apple can get people to spend £300 on a snazzy interface.
