Rumours i was reading that apples iPhone partner in the UK is T-mobile.

with T-mobile having a hotspot network the wifi bit could be included in a monthly tariff

I bloody hope not, t-mobile has crappy coverage in my neck of the woods

Started reading this thread and was actually really interested until I got to the capacity part. I was even considering whether I'd put up with all the DRM issues that go with an Apple portable device.

Was hoping it'd be a lot more than 8gb.

Whats it's video capability like? Have they got with the program abd got DivX/Xvid on board?

Have a look at apple.com/iphone

The little sample videos are great especially the widescreen iPod ones. When you tilt it...it changes the screen to cover art flow.

Just had a look.

Gotta admit, it does look pretty slick.

Not enough tech spec up yet though. No detail on video capability (it's going to have to go some to replace the Cowon on that front though) or battery life (again, for video).

Yeah ... I suspect they're not aiming at the PMP market (not with a max capacity of 8gb anyway) but with that bit more capacity (well, at least 22gb more) and wide ranging video handling, I'd have been seriously tempted.

As an MP3 player/phone .... looks like it kicks a$$ though .... and I'm FAR from an Apple fanboy!

There is no way it will be Vodafone specific as Apple won't let them brand the software. There are no intel stickers anywhere near a Mac, there is no way they will let Vodafone trash the UI and make it horrible red.

I reckon O2 as it is the largest in the UK and doesn't brand anything.

So let's say for the UK that $499 becomes £299...

Seeing as most phones in the UK are subsidised by monthly payments, will this mean that the phone would actually be cheaper to buy? Or are the Americans on Cingular further subsidising the cost of the phone through their monthly payments?

I feel that the iPhone could really take off over time, in much the same way as the iPod, provided it actually is as simple to use as Apple claim... and also improve on:
1. Battery life
2. Hard Drive size
3. 3G integration
4. Price

What i want to know is ....since the Beatles were shown on the iPhone during launch....are they going on iTunes.

If they do....since donwload charts count toward the U.K charts...the Beatles will hold all Top Ten Positions in the charts

It's looking really good. Do they have to partner with a particular mobile network though? I'm hoping for T-mobile or O2 anyways.

I really wanted it just to be an iPod.
I.E just bring your own sim, and buy it off their store.

Yeah I too was also hoping for a phone that could use iTunes and synch with that.

And yes. I know about Motorola.

It looks fabulous and the touch interface is very impressive but i'd have preffered them to just launch a high capacity full screen ipod rather than stuffing all this phone nonsense in.

It looks very nice, but it is based on people buying tunes at an extortionate rate from Itunes at a time when more and more folks are becoming aware of the fact that Itunes are a huge ripoff!!!!

I will buy one whenever it becomes available even if I need to get it from the states. I cant understand why people are moaning about it only being 4 or 8gb. Why do people need to have every song, photo, video with them at all times.

I usually listen to 20 songs a day max, I dont need thousands with me. Can't people see the cap has been done deliberately so that people will still buy 80gb+ ipods. If the iphone had 80gb why would people buy a normal ipod?, it would spell the end of the ipod.

Its good because people who want an iphone can and people that dont can buy a normal ipod.

1. you don't have to buy music off iTunes.
2. exactly why is 79p a track a rip off?

but do you always know in advance which 20 songs you're going to listen to? the great thing about having your entire collection with you is that you can go with the flow, or listen to something there and then that might just pop into your head or take your fancy. and without ever having to bother with which music is on your player that particular day. bit of a holy grail of portable music IMO, regardless of player.

The American deal is with a particular carrier, I'd personally see Orange as the ideal bed fellow given that they often present themselves as a premium product, they'd also be able to have good tie ins with their broadband and iptv products. Then there is T-Mobile as well which has taken to promoting 'trendy' products. I think Vodafone and 02 are probably a bit corporate for Apple but at the end of the day it's probably going to be down to who offers them the best deal with discounts and promotion.

Personally I'd hope for Orange given the quality of reception round my area it's the only network I can use out in sticks and in my office reliably.

The phone itself is going to be sold on the interface the other features are secondary and outclassed by other already available handsets, it will be interesting to see if Apple can get people to spend £300 on a snazzy interface.

To be honest I do think that its ludicrous to have thousands of songs with you because I think we should be grateful for the technology. Imagine having to carry 5,000 cd singles around with you all day just in case you wanted to listen to one of them. Its that capacity for a reason a) so that the ipod market isnt damaged and b) because large memory isnt small enough for the design.

It would be a tad pricey if it was DRM free but as it comes gift wrapped in DRM it is extortionate IMHO.

It doesn’t quite, no support for HSDPA on this phone.

I wonder if Apple will add this before it launches, as HSDPA is far superior to 3g for say downloading tunes via iTunes or browsing the Internet, especially with sites that are heavy in content.

that's the beauty of mp3 players - you can have all your music without carrying around thousands of CDs.
