o2 contract ends in a few weeks but..

Hi everyone. Last year decided to switch to contract, (if not just to shut my friends up nagging at me to do it) it was also the money saving factor that finally persuaded me.

My contract started last february( 2nd or 3rd i think) and its coming up the the end of the 12 month contract very fast.

Can someone please advise me on what i have to do at this stage of the contract? I want to carry on with the contract for a further 12months but with an upgraded handset, how do i set this up with o2, also what is the best time to arrange this?

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for any help!

Call O2 and ask what they can offer you for an upgrade, if they not offering good deals say you will look elsewhere before you decide, they will more than likely offer you something more. I used to work at vodafone i know how they work. Also if you see a better deal on another network mention it they may match the offer.

Thanks for the quick reply! and thanks for the smashing advice!

When would be the best time to arrange the upgrade, or even call them about it?

Thanks again.

You can get an upgrade anytime during your last month!

Just call them now and see.

My mate was not getting an offered any good phones on upgrade and threatened to leave but they gave him £100 to stay!

your friend has been had by the 2nd cheapest offer from o2.

a decent mobile phone costs o2 between £150 to £200 to buy they gave him £100 instead of a new phone, they've saved themselves a packet.

you dont have to do anything just keep paying for it monthly, when my contract runs out i dont intend to ring them up i will just cancel it when the phone comes out that i want and port my number to a different network or if o2 offer the phone i'll stay with them and upgraded into a new contract.

They were going to chatge him £50 for a new phone though.

They also reduced his tariff down to £15.

Not bad!

if at the end of your 12 month contract you wish to start a new 12 month contract but with an upgraded handset do you get a charge for new phone?

I really don't know how it works, and sorry if the questions i have asked seem silly.

If you want a new phone or ask for a custom made tarrif you will be entered into a new 12 month contract. If you dont do either the contract finishes and thats it you free to cancel or get a pac code when ever you want to leave for another network thats what i plan to do later in the year as i want the new iphone when it comes out.

I rang them just now, i told them what i wanted which is the sony ericsson k800i (upgrading from k750i). I was told there would be a charge of £89.99 to upgrade to that handset because i only pay £19 a month. I didn't want to pay that especially because t-mobile are offering this handset for free with 170mins or 340 texts for only £15 a month. (I am currently paying £19 a month for 50mins and 200 texts)

They said if i was to have the k800i i could have it for free if with an 18month contract instead of the 12month, but i would be paying an extra £114 instead of the £89.99 anyway so no chance to that!

She then offered me a k610i for free on the same tariff i am using now, but the k610i is just about the same as the k750i so i would be upgrading to a new handset for nothing, so i said no to that. I told her about the offer at tmobile and that if i couldn't have the phone i wanted for free i would cancel and go to tmobile and get the same handset for free from them, which is £4 cheaper a month anyway. She cancelled my contract and sent out my pac code straight away!

It didn't work for me if i ring them back up can i cancel the cancel no pun intended and ask for the k800i on a different tariff or is the cancel final?

Thanks!

if you dont use the pac code then the contract wont expire. Or at least that is as far as my knowledge goes on the situation but please dont quote me on that.

Aha! I called them back and spoke to a polite young woman, who was very helpful (which is not normal) i told her i wanted to upgrade and told her what to and she told me about the £89.99 again, but i changed the tariff too (to online leisure 25 - £25 a month for 1000mins and 500 texts) which was fine, she said it was fine and said there would be a £29 charge! I had it all infront of me on the website and it said free so i told her, she put me on hold and came back and said sorry for her mistake.

anyway, i've got the k800i coming in 1to2 working days with a new 12month contract same number etc and my old contract will expire straight away, jobs a good en!

Only decided to upgrade last night and now it's sorted out, was easier than i thought it was going to be!

Thanks All!
