Sony Ericsson Service Centres!

my K800i has today developed a fault, it has no sound when making/receiving calls unless i turn on the loudspeaker! I phoned Sony Ericsson to be told the nearest service centre to me is Barnet, I live in Luton!!! So I either got to spend the best part of 2 days travelling into London to get to Barnet to drop off the phone & collect it, or I can send it through the post, which i am not entirely happy with!!! Anyone else encountered this problem?

They should arrange for it to be collected. If not, send it in the post via Royal Mail Next Day deliver. It's covered for £100s of pounds if it goes missing.

Can't you make use of your mobile phone insurance?

Yes! Had no problems with mine but the other half's phone did the same. A tap on the side sometimes brought the sound bak so it must have been a dry joint on the earpeice speaker.

We are with O2, she rang them and they said they would replace the phone as it is still under the 12month guarentee. Sent it off to them (pre paid) and 2 days later an new phone came back.....Jobs agood-un.

This has happened to both my and my partner - we both have K800i's and the normal ear-speaker (not loudspeaker) has stopped working within just a day of each others.

However, when I called O2 I was told I need to send it in for repair and I was looking at about a 2-week wait for them to send it back. And I even asked that could anything be done sooner as I have been paying for insurance for 3 years and never claimed - NO was the response.

Any tips on how to get them to just replace it straight away?

And quite good they are too
(although they do seem to just send them off to the manufacturer's repair centre quite often)

I think the nearest cpw repair centre to Luton is in Milton Keynes. It might be worth asking in the local cpw store to see if they could arrange to forward it to one of their repair centres (although obviously the more hands it goes through, the longer the repair will take)

I think I'd go for posting it direct to the manufacturer's repair centre using Royal Mail Special Delivery as suggested by iDRAGbehind if a quick repair is needed.

When i had a fault with my K750i, i dropped it into the Vodafone shop, they gave me a loan phone and it was back 3 days later, repaired.

Fantastic service (i wasn't insured either, that's just the standard!)

Another reason to go with Vodafone

We did nothing special.

They were good to us then as they even e-mailed the pre-paid label to us to print off so we could get it done asap.

Must depend on who you speak to at the time and if they are in a good mood.

They won't.

They've no obligation to, it's the retailer you need to deal with.

You wouldn't buy a TV from Currys and take it back to Argos, would you?

Thats slightly dfferent though isnt it! With a mobile you are not just buying a product, you are buying a service, with Orange being the service!
