My wife and I are considering changing from contract to PAYG when our contract runs out at the end of this month.

We are both happy with our phones and don't really use all the minutes we get. We are probably paying about £25 each a month and I think on PAYG we wouldn't spend much more than £10 each.

How do I go about changing and is it possible to keep our numbers?

Cheers for any help.

Just phone 191 and tell them. As its with Vodafone already they can do it no problems.
Just done it with a work phone from vodafone contract (via a reseller) and they changed it over when I gave them a PAC code from the reseller. Vodafone didn;t charge a thing but reseller charged £15 for PAC code.

Also if you only really call each other then I recommend the Vodafone family, Its £5 a month for 4 other numbers that you call for free between each other. This is still avalible on PAYG but you need £5 credit at the start of each month.

Hi spannerjago,

I work for Vodafone and have enclosed our contract to pay as you talk change over process below. Vodafone need the following information, either by letter or fax, and it does involve 30 days notice period:

1- Your billing address in full.
2- Your date of birth.
3- Your landline contact number.
4- Your payment method.
5- Your account and mobile number.
6- Your signature.

This can be sent either by fax to 08701616500 or by post to the following address:

Vodafone Ltd
PO Box 549
Banbury,
OX17 3ZJ.

When you switch over to pay as you talk you keep the same SIM card and number. There's a useful link on the Vodafone website that'll give you all the information you need about topping up etc.

As UKC101 mentions, Vodafone Family does sound ideally suited to you if both you and your wife are on Vodafone Family and will be calling one and other, more details here:

Thankyou very much. Both of you.

Bit dissapointed that in this modern day and age I have to either fax or write instead of just phone or email but I realise it is done to make it awkward to give up your contract.

I shall send the letter tomorrow and get the ball rolling.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

the main reason for that with vodafone is ... because they have always done it that way and dont want to change it yet. I thought it was shocking actually when i found out because i know i can never be bothered to write a letter!

we had a point where terminations and switch overs would be accepted by email, including relevant security information. As of December 2005 Vodafone decided to make this more secure and a signature was required. It's a little long-winded although from personal experience I've found typing up a request on word, printing off, sticking a signature on it then dropping it through a fax machine (most post offices will do it for you + you can get a reciept) the best method.

it's funny that the signature is more secure since i signed up with no signature...

I've known people have problems too with not knowing their account number and vod not being willing to tell them.

You should phone first anyway. you might find that they'll offer you something worth while to stay.

To the OP, I was in the exact same position. Called them up and was offered 75min anytime any network per month and 50 texts for £10 pm, for 9 months on a 12 month contract. Goes up to 15 or 20 for the last 3 months, but can probably change again at that point.

Not a bad deal, considering going PAYG would have averaged out at £12 pm. Give them a call at least, saves the hassle of changing networks and getting the PAC, unlocking the phone, etc.

Can I suggest you send your cancellation letter by recorded delivery. Twice before when I have cancelled contracts they have said they never got the letter. They always get the Recorded ones though!!
