Feb 11th has been rumoured on here as the launch of the new packages etc under Tiscali, perhaps even a new box.

As this is only a month away now and I would presume we would have forewarning. Has anyone any news?

Seem's like there going backwards there! having two box's
like the old day's of HC with the actel modem was it?

saying that i was told something completly different
about there new box and services that BOTH Homechoice and Tiscali was going to offer in the near future well from feb 07 that is.

But to tell you the truth i dont think no one is sure whats happening not even HC or Tiscali which makes it more worrying.
as it looks like were all being told different things
and the newly founded customer service team based in scotland has not had full training to deal with the way homechoice services work.

At least the service works, which is not can be said of BT Vision service. Its going to get some very bad publicity for IPTV. I was wondering if there was a chance of a x360 based STB (MS have designed one) but the MS IPTV is a year away from being ready by the sounds of it.

MS IPTV solution is actually available now to suppliers, there are a few already using it in the US and a think they have been working on deals in the UK with BT being the one i know was announced, it is only the 360's implementation of the software that we will have to wait a year for.

IF HC/TUK are going to use a a seperate STB and modem, it will be a better as they will be able to link the two via an RJ45 cable so that it will be easier to have TV and Internet in differnet rooms.

Huh? How is running a cat5 cable to the stb any different to running a cat5 cable to your computer(s)?

Unless you mean having the tv in a different room to the phone line, then yes it would make it easier.

yes, also in theory the connection between modem and STB should work over a power line using homeplugs and so there wouldn't be the need for running lengthy cables! bonus!

Ok so another moan,

It would appear that BT Vision is really starting to push the boat out!

When you read the BT Vision threads all the comments are about how good the VOD films quality are considering they are coming down the phone line! Makes me laugh as it would seem most of the people, outside London had no idea this was possible yet HC have been doing it for years!

BT Vision now has some cool series on demand including of course 4OD and 5download!

Why does HC not have this!? We get "TAKE TWO" with rubbish series 1 of desperate housewives and lost!

I just think on Feb 11th all we will see is a new look website! I really cant imagine that we will get PVR boxes or new channels? But if we dont Tiscali will see a lot of their loyal custs leaving. I hope when they offer their half price new packages to new custs we as existing get the same treatment. I for one would consider signing another 12mths if the price was right and the packages were decent!????

I have already had 6mths free so another 2mths left to go and then another 3mths on Tiscali TV would not be bad!!!

Time will tell....

And of course lets not forget that NTL/Telewest a once awful cable company may soon be a very more than viable replacement when in a few weeks it becomes VIRGIN MEDIA
http://www.knowfirst.co.uk/
A company I have never had any problems with and are without doubt in my opinion a first class company when it comes to customer sevices.....

Yeah, the fact that he could watch a film without breakup or the box freezing was worthy of a post on the forum. The BT Vision service is flaky as hell The On demand works - but you pay for that.
The list of bugs is massive, how can you possibly positively compare it with anything....

Regardless of the service being flakey they are bound to work out any bugs. So the bottom line is that Homechoice will have to get their act together.

With BT in the market place Homechoice is becoming a less attractive offer.

With little content I am left with the compensation of a stable service.

But outside of that I am not excited by what Homechoice have on offer.

Bennat you mentioned that BT ondemand have some good content. But what exactly ? All I can see is Dinnerladies on their website, oh and nip nTuck.

What else is available ?

I really don't see homechoice in its current form still existing in 2 years time unless some major company takes over.

I think its a shame. I have been a loyal consumer of their product, they were at the birth of the technology and should be a major contender. But for some reason or other something went wrong. They should of grabbed the market at a much earlier stage.

MS IPTV has been under development for many years and has been rejected by several companies it was supposed to be live a few years ago. So its already had several years to fix the problems and they still haven't. Maybe just one more update. Maybe.

BT Vision is obviously competition, their name alone will mean they will probably win. They do have some good VOD content.
But the service is expensive and bug ridden, plus it really is just Freeview channels, whereas HC do have non Freeview channels like Eurosport, CNN and the Discovery channels.

Polly, Homechoice have been taken over by a another company, don't you think they are going to launch new products, as they have been promising?
