ITV don't own the rights to Hollyoaks.

Yes, but Hollyoaks is owned not by ch4 but by all3media, and they would sell the show to a soap channel. Ch4 only own the rights to the current episodes! |

A soap channel needs soaps that lots of viewers will actually watch.

Would be great if it happened, but I'd say it's unlikely. ITV Movies is rumoured to be the next project by ITV.

Channel 4 have sold the rights to old Brookside episodes to Sky and Living over the years, so that wouldn't be a total impossibility.

I cant see the Soap channel happening. many of us have been campaigning for one for years since the demise of Sky Soap. Different networks state that a UK Soap channel is not viable basing themselves on the poor results obtained by Sky Soap. They however do not consider that Sky Soap was filled with ancient reruns off old soaps.
A proper soap channel could screen a fair share of new US soaps, and various popular reruns - Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest, and Uk fare. |

A soap channel on sky & cable would reach over 10.6 million homes! A mix of British/Aussie soaps and new soaps from the USor NZ would pull in the viewers. Mixed with other ITV dramas that are not really soaps but yet would fit this type of channel, such as A&E, Heartbeat, Wheir the heart is...ect. I estimate that such a channel would get more than 3 million viewers a week! Thats more than enough to make a profit.

Also dont forget Men & Motors is owned by ITV plc, but they dont use the ITV brand to premote. This is because it is seen as a "cheap" channel and I guess a soap channel would also be seen in such a way. This is why it would be named 'SOAPIE' or somthing like that and not as an ITV brand.

I agree they wont get big ratings but small digital channels only need small ratings. As for corrie-hillman years, please no, thats only a few years ago! Classic means from at least the early 90s!
