Sharp 32" Widescreen CRT problems
Hi there can anyone help?
I have a three year old Sharp 32" widescreen CRT TV. If I put the picture in to 4:3 mode the top of the picture is squashed (like the sides are being pushed together - height wise its fine) but the bottom of the picture is ok. However if I switch it to any of the widescreen modes (zoom, 14:9, Cinema, 16:9) the picture is perfect. OK. I could always watch TV in 16:9 mode but if the programme is in 4:3 mode I want to watch it in its correct ratio and not 16:9. Is my TV not worth repairing or it is a small fix? Thanks Last edited by gazzatins : 14-01-2007 at 20:48. |

Has it always been like that? Sounds like a weird fault to be honest.

It 'might' just need adjusting, but Sharp TV's are prone to various pincushion faults like this - often requiring various components replacing.

I've got a similar problem, and was about to post on here to see if anyone thinks my tv is on the way out. I have a 26" widescreen tv, connected to Sky+Box on 16:9 setting. I have a second tv connected via a cable to 4:3 setting on the Sky set up section. All has been fine until the last week, but now occasionally, my picture is going like an hour-glass, ie the top and bottom of the picture shrink a bit, but the centre goes down to about half the width sort of like this ) ( It clears after about 3 or 4 minutes, and then may not do it again till the next day. Any suggestions please?

I didn't bother mentioning it, because nobody will have heard of it anyway, it was an offer tv in the days before Morrisons took over Safeway, its probably 4 years now and was the first sub £200 widescreen at the time, its called Naiko, and is so obscure that there has never been a Sky code for it that will operate the remote. I don't know the model number, its probably on the back somewhere but way too heavy for me to ever move again, I will have to get help to shift it if and when I get rid.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway. |

Naiko are simply a brand name, the TV will be made by another company, possibly Vestel or Beko, try all the Alba/Bush/Goodmans/Matsui/Beko etc Sky codes and i'm sure you'll get one to work.

OK maybe you can suggest a good brand cheap <£600 LCD 32" HD flat panel (with PC input)? Thanks |

At one time the Euronics buying group had exclusive rights to Wharfdale TV's - and we were forced to take some because members weren't buying them - they were the same AK45 chassis as most of the other cheap crap about. Really I would advise comparing them to a better brand, side by side on the same picture - I suspect you will be staggered by the difference!. |
