T Mobile Sim Problems
My son has a Sony Ericsson K750i on the Virgin network. We find that we have real trouble getting a signal in our house and have got some free sim cards from various other network provideres to see if we can get better reception with them.
Today my son put a T Mobile sim card in his phone but he found that the signal was just as bad so he took it out and inserted an O2 card but the screen on the phone read 'Insert correct sim'. We were on the understanding that once his phone was unlocked from Virgin he could put any sim in. Does anyone know what has happened here and how we can get the O2 card to work. |

Yeah, you're right but we actually got the phone unlocked by Virgin which should allow us to use ANY sim card.

I don;t think he tried anymore - think he got a bit worried in case he'd broke it.

This sounds like the security settings on the phone. The phone can be set to allow only a certain SIM or number of SIMs to be used.
This is so that if someone steals your phone they can't use their SIM. Its easy to change this in the security settings. |

Its your backstreet shops that would unlock ya phone to any network or if the phone was bought as sim free i.e you buy the phone at a higher cost then its up to you to choose what ever network ya want, The reason network providers have it locked to there network is cost they subsidize the price of the handset which then ties you to there network and hence get the money back through ya bill or top-up. also virgin do use the tmobile network |

I don't understand how Virgin can unlock the phone - with Sony Ericsson phones they HAVE to be unlocked via a cable connected to a computer, you can't just enter a code like Nokia mobiles.
The phone is still locked. As Virgin uses the T-Mobile network, both these SIMs will work fine. To use another other network you'll need to get the phone unlocked at the market or in an independant phone shop. If you have been charged by Virgin to have the phone "unlocked", get your money back. |

The OP doesn't say that they entered a code so I don't know where you got that from. (Incidentally, I think you are wrong about needing a cable unlock) |
