Padding

I have read of problems with Humax and padding.

Does the Topfield have problems with padding and recording two programs one immediately after the other?

Cheers

The Topfield doesn't have padding built in, so doesn't have the particular padding bug that the Humax has.

You can add padding manually on the Topfield, or via various TAPs, which can do it transparently for you in the background; some of them deal more elegantly with back to back recordings than others, but there's no particular issue with that situation - I run a TAP that automatically records loads of stuff for me, and handles back to back programs pretty well.

An' if you're lazy like me, you can just record the programme before and the one after. Works for me.

My understanding is that the problem with the Humax 9200T arises when one programs 2 recordings with the same start time.
Otherwise,I have not experienced any problems with the autopadding.

Hi. The bug with autopadding on the Humax is to do with two programmes that are on the same channel one after the other and setting up the timers in non-chronological order. Setting them up in chronological order is the workaround, but thats how most recordings are set anyway. For example, if you wanted to record two programmes that are on the same channel one after the other - you had to select them from the EPG in chronological order. Selecting them both in non-chronological order meant the second of the two would not take. This problem was addressed in new software - problem is its only available via the Humax website - its not in the OTAs at the moment so most customers wont have the latest version until the new one goes OTA! Hopefully some time this quarter though.
