I have a nice new sony television but the picture is too "zoomed in" in all modes (4:3, 14:9, Smart, 16:9) resulting in a loss of pciture at the top and bottom of the screen.

I have heard from somewhere there is a secret installers menu on most modern televisions to alter the features of the picture.

Does anybosy know the "secret" combination to input on my Sony remote to get to this menu.

Cheers,

Simon.

I would recommend calling an engineer out and have it sorted under warranty as altering the settings in the engineering menu is potentially fatal!!
You really do need to understand the full technical aspects of television technology before you start experimenting in there, if you do decide to go for it then make sure you write down the original settings before changing them.
I have seen a number of posts in these and other forums where people have had a go and then found to their cost that the telly is well and truly busted!!

I agree.... if it's under guarantee get it sorted by the supplier.... if you really want to tinker.. and at your own risk (this will invalidate the warranty should you bugger it up) check out THIS site....

Be very careful what you alter and makes sure you make notes what the settings are before you alter them!

Managed to do it quite easy. The picture was just zoomed in too far, changed two settings and now works fine.

Thanks for all your help!

I have just acquired a new Philips 14" NICAM TV/monitor and the geometry/power supply artefacts are appalling!

It would suit me to sort it myself rather than battle with Curries, so any info on service settings would be much appreciated.

As we are all looking for service menus and we don't seem to trust TV engineers, well some of them at least, could D Spy set up a menus section like the Tests Update?

I could use Sony, Samsung, Philips, Matsui, Bush, and Goodmans for a start...

I used to service Panasonics and Sonys, but haven't any info on the rest... however you could post a link on < this > site and ask... I've sometimes had some success, other technicians frequent this site....
