There's a very shady company operating by the name of Bash.com. They are calling Three customers trying to get you to upgrade.
They do not get the list from the information office of people who have opted out of marketing calls. I have had two calls from them and have now enabled auto recording on my phone for evidence.
They also lie telling you thay are calling from Three. I asked them where they were based and they said 'Manchester', I asked the name of the agent calling and he said "John Smith" (in an Indian voice with a 2 second delay!)
I said I would call customer services to confirm that he was calling from Three and that they had John Smith working for them based in Manchester, he said sure call 150, I said 'but the number is 333, not 150. He then admitted that he was calling from Bash.com and that he had lied.
I immediately complained to Three and got the number in London for Bash.com from them and made a complaint. Bash.com's boss told me that the call centre was in fact based in India. I threatened to send the recording to the information office, not only for mid-reprisenting the purpose of a marketing call, but also for calling numbers which have opted out of marketing calls. The gentleman assured me I would not be called again.
So watch out, if Three call they will call from a number ending in 333, not a withheld number. They will also know your name rather than asking it !!
These scammers even quote the data protection act when they ask for your name and details, saying they need to confirm that you are the customer. This is incorrect, they should know your name and they are able to call your number and ask to speak to you by name without breaking the data protection act.
