Why do messages take so long?

A friend of mine has the pink LG Chocolate and since she got it there seems to be a problem with getting SMS messages through on the phone. Sometimes she'll get 4 or 5 at a time and from my end I can send text after text and they won't go through until she either texts herself or something happens to open the gates. The same goes for voice calls - you get the Vodafone voice saying "This persons phone is currently unavailable"

Any ideas as to whats causing it?

If it was fine before she started using this phone perhaps it's a problem with the phone. She could try the SIM in another phone and see?

The delivery of SMS is subject to the phone being in coverage. If the message is not delivered straightaway it is held on a platform until the phone is in coverage. As you state that voice calls go direct to the voicemail, would suggest this is coverage related.

I understand what you're saying about coverage, but that wouldn't explain why I can send and recieve texts and calls when I'm standing right next to her!
The phone doesn't say its out of range either so I'm at a loss to explain it.

My Nokia 6630 keeps doing the same at random times...
(On the Orange network!)
Infact, for some reason, it's when I'm waiting for a phone call, and/or text message to come through.
I could be sitting there, and then a message eventually comes thru, that the sender sent up to 30 minutes - even hours ago! :S

I've ended up having an argument over this problem, just cause of my "sh*tty phone"

I'm now having to occasionally restart my phone, just to check for any messages or phone calls!

Does anyone have any solutions to this stupid and annoying problem?

The network's "solution" is to switch the phone off and back on, but how can they expect you to do that all the time?

Try going on manual select network, and select a few incorrect networks to your own. It'll say failed or something along those lines. Then select automatic and let the phone connect to your home network again. This resets your mailbox at the networks end, and should save a call to them if it works.

The above is what Orange told me to do about 5 years ago when i used to be with them.

Hi DeltaUnit22

I work for Vodafone and may be able to offer some help.

The first thing you need to do is get your friend to try another SIM in her handset, and vice versa. The reason I suggest this is the fault may be the phone, the SIM, or the network, and doing this test will rule out either the phone or the SIM.

Once your friend has done that, if they go to www.vodafone.co.uk, then contact us, they can send us an email with the results, so we can either repair/exchange the handset, or take whatever actions are needed to repair the fault.

If they include FIT165 in the body of the text, the email will be picked up by a team who monitor public forums.

Hope this helps

Cheers for that, will pass it on...
We've tried swapping sim cards over when hers is shown as out of service yet when we put her card in my phone (Sony v630i which I've also had my problems with!) it shows in service and can recieve texts and voice calls.
I would presume from all of that there is a problem with the phone itself - the battery also seems to run itself down very quickly.
I'll get her to drop you guys an email.
