Just over 14 I think but that was 4 years ago! So this is fab, it was a huge achievement! I doubt we'll ever see any of the soaps reach these heights agin, unfortunately!

I think its possible. In 2005 EE hit 15m when Chrissie Watts killed Den Watts - and that was only 2 years ago. And later in 2005, when the Mitchell brothers returned to confront Chrissie it hit 14.5m, and that was only just over a year ago. I don't see why CS couldn't hit around 12-13m sometime in 2007 if its good enough. EE may not be able to, as the current characters are not really good enough to warrant that viewership, but CT has not had a mass exodus of established characters so it still has the potential to draw viewers in if the storyline is right, as Tracy & Charlie have demonstrated.

I'm sure you are wrong about those ratings! I'm almost certain that Eastenders has not got anywhere near 14 million in the last 2 years.

No, I'm fairly certain - Den's death got 14.7m (so I rounded up to 15), and the other ep got something like 14.4 or in that region. (If one includes the omnibus ratings, which I dont, then the episode where Chrissie killed Den was watched by 17m people. I would consider that episode to basically be the last of the high-raters for the 3 soaps).

If you look at 2006, EE ratings have been dramatically down most of the year, and has done far worse than 2005. Whilst many may attribute this to a general decline of audiences affecting soap, EE position in relation to Corrie worsened in 2006, compared to its position to Corrie in 2005. In that year, EE quite often beat Corrie, but rarely did so in 2006.

If memory serves me right (although on this I could be wrong), episodes of EE were constantly reaching towards the 14m mark in the first few months of 2005, certainly hitting 11m or more a fair few times - have to go and check on the ratings thread.

If the story line was bad the ratings would be low

Congratulations to Corrie! They truly do deserve those ratings, the Tracy/Charlie storyline has kept me hooked to my tv screen! Well done to the cast and crew for developing and acting out this wonderful storyline, Corrie truly deserve these figures.

Eastenders can surely get 13m if it's got a huge storyline like Corrie had.

I can see EE's ratings going up later on this year- they've got a couple of good climax's to come at the minute- Stacey and Max's affair being revealed, Kevin and Shirley's secret being revealed, the outcome of whatever is going to happen to Martin and Sonia. Don't write them off just yet

EE is awful.

Crap characters that fans weirdly obsess about (Bradley and Stacey?).

Crap storylines which sound like they've been created by an instituted lunatic.

I wouldn't say that Billy and Honey's downs syndrome storyline was crap, or the domestic violence storyline with Owen and Denise either. Admittedly there are perhaps a few too many storylines going on at once at the minute and so that means that they aren't dealt with in as much depth as they could be but it doesn't mean that it's crap.

But anyway bottom line is we all have our own individual tastes- some people like EE and some people like Corrie- doesn't make either of us right or wrong- it's just our own personal opinion.

But that's my point.... whether one likes it or not, there are few established characters left in EE, most of them are of a new generation so are not going to have the pulling power anymore, so the potential for a "huge storyline" (that will draw in the big ratings) is no longer there.

Its not a Corrie or an EE thing.... rather, its the nature of character exposure to the wider public. The same thing will inevitably happen to Corrie as well, Corrie just happens to have been lucky in not having lost a large number of established and well known characters in quick succession.

Corrie had the same trouble as EE in the early '80s! Strangely at the same age EE is now! Actors eather left or died almost monthly!

I think I'm going to make a completely pointless post to say what a completely pointless post that was.

No justification for the criticism, just "it's crap".

Not even a grade G for that one, sonny

Yes what both you and Filiman have said is true. It took Coronation Street a few years to recover from losing characters like Len, Annie, Elsie, Albert and Stan as it took a long time to establish characters such as Curly, Kevin, Sally and Martin. So hopefully EE will get through its rough period too.
