Mine definitely needs to be on for the first download only. The Philips manuals are really bad - the manual for mine actually tells you to do it both ways in different sections... very confusing... Last edited by sparky_paul : 20-01-2007 at 00:04. |

sparky-paul i have tried leaving my recorder on a couple of times, but it has made no difference,i still have no Guide+.When i go into Guide+ there are no Channels there.a message scrolls across the top saying Guide+ was unable to complete set up,set to host channel and go into standby.I notice when i go into Set Up then Set Up Information my Post Code is there but no Host Channel or Last and Next download, which always used to be there.i can't understand why it has worked perfect for a couple of months then it not there. Is there a way of doing a Re Set and starting again.By the way i have E Mailed Philips but have heard nothing back.I e mailed them about 5 weeks ago on a different problem which i sorted myself, but i never heard from them.Any Ideas.Thanks.Cumbrian

You can choose the host manually which i would do - ITV analogue if you have it but failing that use E/Sport - For the first night tune it to the host manually and leave it overnight - standby or on doesn't matter - what matters is it tuned to the host

Jethro will be able to help better here, he's got the same machine as you. As you can select the host manually, this seems the way to go...
My machine is a bit different to yours, you can't select the host manually on the HDRW720 - you have to leave it powered up on the host channel, then select Guideplus and immediately power it down to fix the host, once the first data is received. If you want to use analogue ITV, make sure that reception is good, especially that analogue text works perfectly. Otherwise, the only answer is Eurosport if you have Sky connected. |

sparky-paul and JethroUK thank you,Jethro when i originally tuned the recorder it found 10 Analogue channels. But when i try to find ITV1 Analogue has the manual says"page34" all i get are Digital and Radio channels i can't find a analogue channel. Also setting the host channel manually is it just 03 for ITV 1.I can still record with the recorder but not anything in advance without the Guide+.Thank You.Cumbrian

Have you unplugged it at all,to see whether that cures your problem. Then going through the set up again. Are you absolutely sure, that all your connections are tight. Do you have any external receivers connected to it,as the manual for the dvdr7250,also advises: Quote:
TIPS: After completing the setup, leave the recorder in standby mode and turn on your external receivers overnight to receive the TV listings data

I couldn't remember if you had Sky or not.
I wouldn't worry about the freeview box too much, the Guideplus data is not transmitted on freeview. The only way you will receive the Guideplus data is from analogue ITV, so the analogue channels must be tuned in on the recorder, as well as the digital channels. I can only suggest that you start from scratch and set up the machine again, you can completely clear and reset the machine by connecting mains power whilst holding down the 'standby/on' button. This will do a factory reset, the machine should show the first installation menu when powered up, but should preserve the recordings on the HDD. When setting up, have the manual handy and follow it exactly - the machine should install the analogue channels, followed by the digital ones. If it worked once, it should work again!

Update from last post. Before this afternoons download was due i connected the recorder up has i had it before i connected the Freeview box to it.And it downloaded the Guide+,i had it back.i checked that everything worked okay, which it did.So i connected my Freeview box back up,this is so i can watch a different digital channel to the one being recorded by the recorder, switched on,there was no programme listings.all the channels were there but where it tells you whats on was blank.so i have taken the Freeview box away, there is another download at 7 oclock tonight.i will see if installs the programme listing after that one.if it does. before tomorrows download i will rig the Freeview box back up and see if it downloads with that connected.Cheers.Cumbrian

Glad to hear yours is now fixed.
I thought we'd narrowed the other problem down to incorrect setting of the EXT1/EXT2 setting in Guideplus? The cross definitely indicates that it's detecting no source on the selected input. Suggest setup from scratch again... ![]() ...also make sure Sky box is left switched on...

sparky-paul yes we did.but she had the bloke that set it up for her back last week and he said its set up right, then she reckons he didn't seem to have much idea,he said he couldn't find her Digibox in the setup.but he said it should still work, which it doesn't.she's got a bit of a ruck going on with him,she won't pay him until he sorts it out.She said he's a Panasonic man and reckons Philips are crap.Anyway i have told her to forget about it until i visit on the 17th of next month. i will have a go starting from scratch.Thank Again.Cumbrian

I don't think you'll have problems if you set it up again from scratch, and make sure the Sky box is switched on when a recording is due - the recorder will change channel, but won't turn the digibox on. Good Luck!

If it can update from ITV analogue (the best method) it doesn't need a digibox at all

JethroUK the reason i asked about channel 410 was on behalf of my sister she has the DVDR7250 she keeps forgetting to leave it channel 410 she wondered if it still downloaded if left on a different channel.I have the same recorder but with a Freeview box.the reason i have the Freeview Box is so i can watch a different Digital channel to the one the recorder is recording.Guide+ only downloads if i leave the recorder on ITV1 Analogue. It will still download even if the Freeview box is switched on.If the recorder is on anything else apart from ITV1 Analogue it does not download. So when the recorder is not in use i always make sure it is left on ITV1 Analogue then put into standby. Cheers Cumbrian

If its set up correctly, you should not have to select the source channel before switching off.
I use Eurosport as the source for the Guideplus data. Bearing in mind that I have a HDRW720 which is similar to yours but not exactly the same, it selects EXT2, turns the Sky box on and selects channel 410 to do the download, so I can leave either the Philips or Sky digibox on any channel.
