BT Fusion WiFi User Experience Nokia 6136 Motorola A910

I have just received two BT Fusion WiFi phones. one is a Motorola A910 and the other a Nokia 6136. As i was already a Fusion customer using the Blue tooth phones and was out of contract I upgraded to plan 100 with 100 any network mins and 50 Texts per month. As both my Wife and I have a phone the cost works out at £12 per month each over an 18 Month contract. I got both phones so that i could compare them to see what the performace was like.

Set up was verey straight forward just find the Home Hub and enter the Wep Key into the phone. A display icon on the Phone shows green when connected to broadband and Red when connected to WiFi but not Broadband.

The Motorola A910 is a bit bigger than the V650 Bluetooth phones previously available but. But does have mini SD memory expansion slot a 1.3 Meg Camera and it still has BlueTooth as well. It connects to the computer using a standard USB cable but you do have to have the Motorola Phone Tools Software which I think can only be purchased with a USB cable for about £19.

One odd thing about the Motorola is that although it is an MP3 player it doesn't have an ear piece socket so I guess you would have to have Bluetooth stereo headphones to use this feature.

The Nokia 6136 phone is another shell like phone smaller and lighter than the Motorola but with two key differences
1) absence of Bluetooth
2) No USB cable connection (athough a special cable can be purchased)

This makes connectivity quite limited, you cannot connect to the phones internal features using WiFi as this is not supported by the Nokia Phone software. This means you have to use Infra Red or a seperate cable.

One upside for the Nokia is it does have a pair of Stereo Headphones and Headphone socket.
It does have a mini SD slot for memory expansion.

So that is the basics but please let me have your questions

Does seamless handover work? When you walk out of broadband wifi range does an active call automatically switch to GSM?

Do the handsets always select your broadband wifi connection as the priority or do you have to manually tell the handset you are at home?

I am looking at one of these at them moment

Hi Only

Yes it realy does work. And seamlessly too also if you leave the house and start call connected to BB the call is charges at the BB rate even though you end it on the Mobile network.

I am waiting to try out the roaming into Openzone. This is already set up on the phone and is supposed to work seamlessly also.

FMC is here!!!

I like the look, but the phones don't look that good.

Thanks Kentish, that's dead interesting. I always thought it was an interesting idea that BT had, good to hear it works!

Phones are of course a personal taste but i am begining to warm to this Motorola (A910).

As an old Man with fading vision I do like the size of the text on the display OK it is a bigger phone but at least it doesn't have an Aerial poking out of it.

Also compared to the Nokia, as I said before it does have Bluetooth and I am starting to get the Idea of voice activating calls by talking to the phone. You just press a button on the side (with phone shut) and ask to call a person by name or read out the numbers so the pgone dials the number automatically
