Idiots at Carphone Warehouse

Ordered a mobile from them which went missing, so they said they'd refund me on my card that I payed with within 48 hours. Didn't happen.

Called them back and they said they're sending a cheque which will arrive within 7 working days. Didn't happen.

Called them again to ask where the cheque was, they said it takes upto 14 days to arrive. Didn't happen.

Called them AGAIN, they said the cheques were sent on the 8th January from PORTUGAL (wtf?) and can take upto 28 days to arrive.

They are taking the piss. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE IDIOTS.

Sounds a little worrying to me. My understanding was that credit card companies insist that refunds are made to the card; presumably both to avoid fraud and to avoid giving "points" on transactions subsequently cancelled.
In your position my first port of call would be the credit card company to cancel the transaction. I've always found them very helpful when anything goes wrong. 28 days hanging round waiting for a "cheque in the post" sounds like a bad idea.

Yes, companies are required to provide the refund on the card. Its unusual for one to give a cheque refund.
Also, the phone would have been sent by courier (and signed for, last time I ordered from CPW), so they would know where the phone is. Something doesn't seem right here.

The phone was 'lost' by City Link during transit. I asked why they weren't refunding it direct to my card and they said issueing a cheque was standard practice for the company.

The card I used was a debit card & payment was taken a couple of weeks ago.

I had to chase my bundled top up credit when I got a new phone. Ended up having it applied three times, once extra as a cock-up and a third time as an apology for their cock-up

I am still waiting for a cheque to come through the post as a refund for a faulty Motorola Krzr that I received from them. I have rang CPW up and they said the request for the cheque was sent on the 3rd of January and there is still no sight of them!!! Im starting to think something has gone wrong.

Also I questioned a £20 top up I paid for but never actually used because I used my own sim when I get the phone. They said I have to send the sim back and then ring up to request a refund, I really dont think anyone at the cpw call centres know what they are on about. I got passed through 3 different departments trying to find out when I would get the cheques. All I keep getting is give it another week.

Spoke to someone today that works in the CPW store and they said it usually takes them 30 - 60 days!!!!!!!!!!! But they also said just keep ringing up and demand the cheques and I will end up getting them sometime soon. (this conversation was sort of off the cuff as I know them).

I am going to ring CPW tomorrow and see what they say, it better not be wait another week!!!!!!

I wonder if CPW's bank or card processor are aware they are issuing cheques.
If it was me I would contact your card issuer, to dispute the charge.

Hi

I have had 2 Wii controllers go missing sent via Parceline ,which is a trackable service but they cannot say where they are now.

I thought that was the whole point of it been trackable so they can trace it to its last known depot / driver

Gamestation are sending 2 more FOC to replace them.

Didn't you want a replacement ?

They offered a replacement but they said they were now out of stock of the phone. So they said we'll give you a refund. So I went and bought the phone from a CPW store instead.

Foolish to do so, I know now.

A little tip, always go back into a CPW store if you have any issues, they will deal with them much faster.
They can check stock in other stores if you need a replacement, and actually do the legwork by ringing the different departments for you, while you are in store.
Be smart about when you go in though, dont go in at the busiest times, most stores are open until at least 6pm.
Never lose your rag with them, and they will help in most cases.

... and people were surprised when Vodafone announced that they won't be dealing with CPW in the future. That is just the tip of a very large iceberg.

I've just been sorting out a deposit for £300 for a customer that was originally with CPW then migrated directly to Vodafone. They somehow think that as the customer is now with Vodafone directly, then it's up to Vodafone to refund the £300.

Been on the phone three times today to sort this out. Severe case of muppetry going on !

Yeah, CPW may be great in getting the phone that some networks don't stock, but the aftersales is awful, or in some cases can't even sort out the simpe things like sending the phone out to a customer.
