I'm showing my age when I recall the Sonia sketch that French and Saunders did (along with Bros and U2) when her reply to every question asked of her was either 'Liverpool' or 'T'riffic'.

Hilarious. In the same way I always think of Amanda Burton saying 'How are you' in an awful Oirish accent and Bros saying 'Bruvaz', Sonia will forever be saying 'Ummm Liverpool ?'

Anyone else wandering down the same memory lane ?

I remember going to see her in Grease the musical in London in 1994 and she was Sandy (with Shane Richie as Danny) and she was a fantastic singer.

Sonia did an appearance at one of our union club nights alongside Jason Donovan a few weeks ago and she embarrassed him by singing well (live) and getting the crowd going. Obviously I still screamed louder for jason trying to remember how this once beautiful youth had turned into a scary looking shaven-headed old man, but if I'm honest sonia was by far the better performer of the two (jason mimed!) I have also heard that sonia is on the reborn in the usa show but think she would be a good sort of character to have in the celeb FA house.
Does anyone know if those who have previously had singing careers would be allowed in though? Surely they would have an unfair advantage? (Although I guess it doesn't really matter if it is all only for charity)

Approaching middle-age maybe - and certainly "once beautiful" - but no way is Jason Donovan OLD!

I saw Jason Donovan performing live, about 4 years ago.
He was very good, in The Rocky Horror Show.
(I did find THAT scary!)

I don't think it was JD I saw as Frank n Furter on the one I saw in Aberdeen but I have seen him live....went to his concert when I was a teenager who really did think you could marry a popstar Yeuch now.

The wig was delivered today so I'm off home in 5 mins to try that on......

Sorry to disappoint, but the only reason I went was because I had free tickets and a keen actor friend.
I didn't enjoy it, apart from seeing for myself that Jason was very good (and being VERY pleased to see Him rather than an understudy!).
We were sitting near the front, and I got wet.
(Water pistols or somesuch, if I remember rightly.)
NO: not my scene - perhaps because everyone else seemed to know what was happening, and I didn't!
I preferred 'Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens', at the Edinburgh Fringe a few years earlier.
(At least there NO-ONE knew in advance what would happen!)

Thanks for stirring the nostalgia OB, tally, fruitie and everyone and making me realise what a barren existence I've led live music wise in the period between my student days and the last offspring embarking on his own student career!

For someone who was at Uni in Liverpool as the Beatles had their first #1 there's really no excuse for this inertia. I missed the Beatles live, but we had anyone and everyone appearing in the Union - all the well known local Mersey talent of the era as well as the Who (trashed their dressing room in typical style), the Kinks, Animals, Manfred Mann and Paul Jones, Chris Farlow, Bonzo Dog Dooh Dah Band to name but a few. Mick Jagger was amaaaazing - wearing tightish corduroy trousers and a cream silk shirt he strutted across the stage in his own inimitable way, corrupting our innocent minds (or so we were told by those who were older and wiser) . And did you know that the Beatles had LONG hair, or so my mother told me! What did 'ordinary ' men look like around the head at that time? - well, certainly not thatlong!

I saw them all but it's the usual case of not appreciating what you have at the time!

However, I'm looking forward very much to going to the FA Tour concert and maybe more in the future, just as long as they are 'kind' to my age-related hearing loss! The last concert I attended BTW was some years ago - the Eurythmics at the NEC - second row from the front, very loud, but absolutely brilliant!

And now it's definitely time for :sleep:

It was just a bit of a shock to see what looked like somebody's dad prancing around the stage instead of the floppy-haired youth they had shown on the posters!!! I also got free tickets to see him - I wonder if anybody does actually pay to see him anymore!

LOL Still wish OB knew how to join in though. I've had a rice pudding down the front of me after the rice has been thrown, water pistols squirted and candles waved aloft, and that's just the first bit
Back on thread, I'd like to see Holly and Jake, the FA CBBC presenters in there. They were fab on that show, and got the Kev treatment, learning a dance routine, during the final week. I like the idea of Carrie and Ruby Wax-that should be interesting.

I'm confused about your hearing loss - I hope you don't mean that now you've got hearing loss you want them to sing LOUDER?

I didn't mean Saucy Jack was really my sort of thing -
just that I enjoyed it a lot more than Rocky Horror.
(It was in a more intimate venue, which helped.)

I initially felt Jealous when I read of the singers you 'had' at Uni (by the time I went, 1967+, most of the acts seemed Wierd & Scary!); but then I realised students of my era were able (if so inclined) to benefit from something I don't think was around when you were there - I'll describe it euphemistically as 'Medical Developments'...!

I did see The Hollies there (though perhaps past their peak by then).
While still at school (in 6th form I suppose) I used to go to an R&B club.
Also (earlier in the 60s) a place with dancing to pop acts like various Mersey groups.
And sometimes I used to go to London to the Marquee & Flamingo (Paul Jones with Manfred Mann etc).
And in 1963 I went to a Beatles tour show.
(How could you be in Liverpool at that time and NOT see them?!)

They were discussing the rumoured stars for Celeb FA on the Celebdaq section of Liquid News, the only ones I can remember were Ulrika, Jo Brand and Will Mellor.

Who's Will Mellor?

Were they perhaps only discussing people who are also on Celebdaq?

I was wondering whether Liquid News would be interested - especially as they have a show at 7 Tuesday, the time the announcement of contestants is allegedly going to appear on the BBC FA Website.
(I'd forgotten about the possible Celebdaq aspects.)

He played Jack Vincent the receptionist in Casualty until quite recently - seems to have been written out - maybe it's so he can appear on Celeb FA to enhance his career .


NO WAY. Not LOUDER. It's just that I'm concerned about being able to effectively use cotton wool to alleviate the reverberating eardrums caused by the bass etc - it was soooo successful at the last concert (2nd row, remember!). But now I fear it would have to be bouncing eardrums or nothing - doubt if I'd be able to hear much with c.w. plugs! Oh the joys .....!!!

it's odd actually as before Celeb BB2 my friend and I were predicting who would be on, just guessing the type of stars they have. Will Mellor was our prediction for young male wideboy totty - al la Darren Day, Keith Duffy from past Celeb shows.

Liquid News was really the only show to support FA, and they love stuff like this so i tihnk they'll be featuring Celeb FA very heavily. Also as I'm sure they're destinated to create a few headlines I think it'll be worth watching Celedaq too.

The only other thing I remember from the piece was that Celebdaq guy said he didn't think Ulrika was going to do brilliantly out of it because she's already over exposed as it is, we've already seen what she can do. I'm inclined to agree.

I only knew about it as a website and as part of Liquid News.

I quite like Ulrika - she's very 'watchable'.

And I like Jo Brand - I've been to her live shows.

I've goen off Ulrika a lot since her book, but I also think the point is with these celeb shows the fun is getting to know these celebs very well,and find out more about the "real" person. With Ulrika a lot of the public know more about her than is really neccesary because of the amount of news stories about her and because of her book.

I really like Jo Brand and Ruby Wax so I'm hoping they do well btu i get the feeling Mr Ginola will go all the way, I remember him doing Sacha Distel on Stars In Their eyes.
