I bought a replacemtn battery for my iPod mini as it was not holding charge atall and i began to start fiting the new battery when i was grinded to a hault because the battery i baught is for a gen 4 which by going by the insstructions appears to be the big original one.

Does anyone know how to open up the iPod mini?

THANKS

You need to prise the little plate off the bottom (using a very small screwdriver or similar) - it's just glued on. Under that there are a couple of small screws, take them out and the entire unit slides out of the case.

Slide it out, battery simply unclips and re-assemble in reverse. Although the base plate is only stuck on, unless you're really unlucky it should re-attach using the residue of the original glue firmly enough that it'll stay in place.

It's pretty easy. Most batteries you buy (ebay I'm guessing?) come with the appropriate screwdrivers and a fitting guide.
