Required Elements
RootsFran

Last year each week the contestants were given a required element to learn and get judged on.

I noticed last night that a lot of those technical elements were already being seen, small jumps, spins, toe pick use.

Do you think they will be given tasks again this year? also they had to use a prop one week, that was when poor Pam got hurt.

I was wondering the same myself Fran, it gave us and the Judges a good opportunity to judge each couple's ability on the same element which is what happens in real icedance and skating comps.

It was all a bit of a mishmash last night with different styles of music, I really loved the Las Vegas theme last year, my fave show.

The prop week was a bit turd last year. Gaynor using a hat, wtf? I hate watching when Pam got dropped, makes me shudder everytime, especially when you she them trying to stop her chin from bleeding. David felt so bad.

Shame that the basic, basic elements were not being judged more harshly such as not bending the knees and naughty toes (as our coach loved to call them).

The Props week was fabulous! Some of the best routines of the entire series, including Stefan & Kristina's Mr Bojangles with the broom.

Is this the level of discussion this forum is going to have? Thank Gawd I can go elsewhere.

Was the lift the required element last night maybe? I know they didn't explicitly state it, but there was a lot of mention of lifts and being required to do them

What's wrong with using Hats as a Prop?
Some of the best routines can be put together with Props.
You want an example? Take Torvill & Dean's "Hat-Trick" Routine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BOD3cm7NHE
I rest my case!

There is going to be required elements starting this week. It was mentioned on This Morning today. Problem is I can't remember what it was called, something to do with putting your leg above your waist or something bizarre....don't quote me on that though

There was a routine last year in Stars on Ice which is the show Christopher Dean choreographs in North America, which used hats along the same idea as Hat Trick, it was nicely done, very funny.

Edited to add the link to the vid

I thought they said spiral but I'm not 100% sure.

A spiral would make sense, if you want to know what they are aiming for go to www.sashacohen.com, the title page has a great spiral photo.

Spiral's a good one, especially if they have to do it solo - see who can actually balance!
