Cable Questions - Please Help ????
Hi,
Am about to upgrade my 28" Sony CRT for a Panasonic plasma TV. Now I want to get the best out of the new TV and am wondering what cables I should be using. I have a HUMAX PVR9200 digital recorder which will have the aerial cable going in and out to TV. I also have a Phillips DVD Home Cinema system. Currently both the PVR and DVD are hooked up to my TV using scart cables (dont know if they are RGB or not) probably relatively cheap ones that come with equipment. What is the best connections I can use for the HUMAX PVR and DVD player to get the best possible pictures. Obviously normal TV viewing is not affected as this is from aerial co-ax cable which is routed through the PVR. I have read a lot about optical, s-video, component cables are any of these of use to me? Any help would be appreciated. |

PVR TV scart ---> TV AV1 (this socket supports RGB)
DVD component if you have it ---> TV component in If no component use scart to TV AV2 (this socket may support RGB, check) Ensure you have your PVR picture setting set to RGB, the DVD should be set also. Ext aeriel ---> PVR RF in PVR RF out ---> TV RF in Also make use of your DVD Home cinema by adding an audio left/right phono cable from the back of the Tv to the AUX input on you HC. When watching any TV (not DVD) whether from PVR or the TV's own digital or analog tuners, set the HC to AUX and turn the TV sound off. Rgds, Scorp |

Thanks for your reply 'Scorpio' i will let you know how I get on.
How much improvement will there be using 'component' over scart for the DVD? |

in the 'ranking' of ascending quality, the concensus is :
RF composite Svideo RGB Component HDMI 'Scart' as you call it, is just the physical transport method - scart leads can carry composite, Svideo or RGB signals, so ensure that your input devices are set to output RGB if possible when using scart cables. Rgds, Scorp |

Have checked my Philips DVD manual and looked at the option for Video Out on screen.
It shows the following Video Out - S-Video PRPBY / Scart It does not mention if it is RGB scart or just scart. I have done a google for my model which suggests it may be RGB scart. My DVD player is the Philips LX3750W. |

It looks like the manual is describing the physical output sockets
Svideo - a 4 pin DIN socket PrPbY - the component outpout, this stands for > Y is luminence. > Pb is the blue color difference signal, R-Y > Pr is the red color difference signal, B-Y this is represented by 3 phono type sockets and can be used if your TV has the corresponding sockets Scart - could carry RGB as your manual suggests. Try the component if your TV can do this, other wise set up with RGB over scart. Rgds, Scorp |
