Cheap Mobile phone (under £40)
can anyone give me any suggestions as to what mobile phone i should buy that is sub £40 (£50 max) as there are too many on the market. Not keen on motorola, because of a phone i had a few years ago (moto wings, i think it was) but if there are any good ones on the market i will consider them.
not bothered about a camera, got a digi one, bluetooth is not a big issue to me. AS LONG IS IT MAKES PHONE CALLS AND SENDS SMS'S I'L BE HAPPY.

(I've had about 14/15 handsets in 4 1/2 years!)

You can get a Sony Ericsson K310i for £49, or thereabouts.
(although Vodafone is offering it for £49 with £10 airtime, i.e. £59 total including the tenner's worth of airtime. Or I am sure you can find it for £50 for the handset alone elsewhere. I am sure I have seen it for T-mobile). As a phone, which at the end of the day is its primary purpose, I think it is hard to beat. Excellent battery life (as is the case generally with SE's); very clear & holds the signal well. Sends SMS as well as MMS. Frills: 15MB memory; polyphonic & realtones (mp3); Camera/video recording (but only VGA); infra-red; Downsides: No bluetooth (ok if that's not a problem). Good screen although it is only 65k and is not TFT, but adequate for normal purposes. I have one and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a budget phone. edit - oops sorry: just noticed you said under £40 but it's only £9 more

I think Motorola phones are a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes you get one you love and sometimes not. They've improved a lot in recent years but are still nowhere as near as good as leading competitors.
