So my Sony Widescreen CRT just died. The picture went all red, now it's totally gone.

Does anyone know if it's worth trying to get if fixed or should I just buy a new one.

Gutted. Absolutely gutted.

Well you give almost no details, so I can't offer any help:

What model is it?
You say it went 'red', do you mean really bright red with flyback lines?.
Is the red LED on the front flashing?, and how many times?.
Does it come on now from cold, them go off with the same problem?

Sorry was not in the best of moods last night.
.
The picture takes on a red tinge, if you select a blank channel then you can indeed see flyback lines. after a while the picture just goes blank, sound still working. After a couple of Minutes the picture returns and the cycle repeats.

TV is a Sony KV32 WF1U

Am hoping it's repairable as I cannot really afford to replace it.

Thanks anyway.

That's what I would suggest as well! - the set is too old to have the specific self diagnostic function I asked about - a later set would be flashing the LED 5 times for this fault.

You should be able to pickup a replacement 32 inch Sony for very little money, they are almost worthless these days - check for ex-rentals, loads are coming back in as customers move to LCD!. You can just about sell the 28's (though not for much), but the 32's are almost impossible to get rid of, and you can't give the 36's away!.

I was offered a free 36 inch Toshiba the other week, it was two years old, and had three years left to tun on it's extended guarantee. I wasn't interested, and turned it down!.
