Have just bought Sky+ and want to set up and RF distribution system so that we can watch SAT/DVD in the bedroom. However, it has occurred to me that our main TV is widescreen, so the digibox is set to 16:9. The Tvs in the rest of the house are 4:3 size, so if I distribute the picture then it will appear tall and thin on the 4:3 Tvs. Does anyone have any solutions?

If they don't have the facility to select 16:9 (few do) I think you're stuffed.

You do have a problem - there is no easy way round it apart from manually changing the digibox to 4:3 or letterbox when not watching the WS set - which is a pain.

It's part of the problem caused by the slow change over to WS, which is causing various items not to work properly with each other.

The only real solution is second Sky box with a mirror subscription - with the second box feeding your non WS TVs.

Sky will install it, but it's not cheap - your Sky magazine has all the details.

I have the same problem with a video sender unit.

If the pictures from the Sky box go in 16:9, they come out the same at the other end on the 4:3 set.

You'll have the same problem with the DVD too.

Remember though a lot of Sky channels are not broadcast in widescreen so you will get normal pictures on the rest of the tvs in the house when this is the case.

This is one option.

The Sky Digibox can be set to 4:3 with Letterbox ON. In this mode the WS tv can be used in ZOOM mode while on the normal 4:3 tv's you get the classic black bars at the top and bottom of the image. But everything will look "right". When a non Letterbox signal (just plain 4:3) comes down the line, the WS tv can be set to 4:3 or SMART mode-or whatever your make of tv calls the mode which is designed to stretch a normal signal to fit the WS tube. The normal 4:3 tv's will show the picture as full screen-just like normal tv.

Yes...

But the pictures on the WS set will be well below par which is a pity.

So your main TV is compromised at the expense of the portables in the box room.

Not my choice...

You may not think so now, but you soon get used to watching the compressed image on a portable in another room.
I do not even notice the problem now.

One thing to ask though, would it be possible via a software update to have the RF2 Output have its own 16:9/4:3 setting, perhaps in the installers menu?
