Anyone know what the differences are in the latest software which looks to be a download in a weeks time??

Am happy with 4.9 and not sure if I should turn off automatic downloads.

I see some argos machines already have the new version anyone know what the changes are?

I have 5.3 but no experience of 4.9 but if you have issues with 4.9 or a question which you think 5.3 might resolve ,feel free to ask

On 4.9, my box freezes up quite often when viewing library recorded material. THIS IS WHEN THE DISK IS 95%+ FULL.

Have to push and hold power button to reset the device.

Will 5.3 improve on this?

Personally I've never experienced this but then I've never had anything like 95% used so cannot say whether it's a 4.9 bug curable by 5.3.Others may be able to offer more advice.

I've looked hard, but didn't spot any changes in the UI at least, between 4.9 and 5.3. Which kinda goes for all the versions since 3.9 too, I guess. I don't think any new features have been added since 3.9. So, 5.3 looks more like an incremental update fixing bugs to increase stability. I've certainly had no new problems with 5.3, and 4.9 was pretty good anyway.

Main issue i was hoping for a fix on is the slight pauses i get when using both tuners.

Just got 5.3 update too. Hope it doesn't mess up the box, it seems that many problems on Sky Plus seem to originate with a software update.

I was happy with 4.9, hope our 2 boxes will be at least as happy with 5.3.

I've tried updating manually twice this morning but the photo right at the bottom of this page is as far as it gets.

If you did a manual update, did you notice how long it took?

The signal strength on my Humax box shows 87% (despite the fog this morning) so I don't think it's that.

John.

Just updated mine and it took about 15 minutes (it did stall a couple of times).

I downloaded 5.3 this morning. It sounds like the hd is running when the box is in standby. On 4.9 it used to turn off after about 5 mins (with a distinct click) but something is different now. I detect a faint whirring but not sure if it was there before. Otherwise there seems to be no difference. The software is dated from September only about 2 weeks after the date of 4.9.

Those of you that have updated to the ota 5.3 can you confirm if you lose the twin record feature or if this remains?

When I updated my box this morning it seemed to stall about 3 times during the process, but then carried on and completed, total time about 18 minutes, then the box rebooted and v5.3 showing. This was an update from v4.9

v5.3 is single record - simply a bug-fix update to v4.9.

v5.3 will overwrite the v1.0 twin record software, so you will lose the twin record feature if you upgrade. You should be able to reinstall the v1.0 software if required, but you will then lose the benefits of v5.3, in other words, v1.0 will not integrate with v5.3, it is one or the other.

OK thanks. Something odd here. I've tried about 4 times today, leaving it for over an hour a couple of times. According to my Humax, the signal strengh is around 85% with the signal quality showing 100%.

It "locates" the new software quickly enough but hangs about 1/3 of the way through the actual update.

Not to worry.

Thats what it does just leave it and it will update itself.

thanks cossall - that is exactly what i was trying to find out. from the info thus far supplied i would much prefer to stay with twin record than goto 5.3 with little perceived benefit!

I tried to install the twin record software onto my 5.3 box but it had no effect. The 5.3 was already loaded when I purchased my box (3 weeks ago) & although it seemed to accept the twin record update the box remained as 5.3, i.e without twin record.

John, are you trying to update from dual record or v4.9?
When the software is downloading, I wonder if it needs memory to store the new update before it overwrites the previous version. If you are trying to update from dual record, there might not be enough memory to store the update and it could be stalling because of this.

If you really want dual record, it might be worth trying to install v4.9 before v1.0 dual, then if it is a memory issue, this should get around the problem, but I am only guessing here.
