Corded Phone works, Broaband too BUT not cordless phone

Can someone please help me as to what I am doing wrong...

I recently purchased a twin set of cordless telephones (BT Equinox 1100). This was to complement my existing Panasonic cordless setup..
Whichever way I try and configure the BT phones I just can't seem to get a dialtone.
I have correctly register the phones to the bases. I can page the phones from the base so I know they are associated to each other . At one point my panasonic was working but even that is now silent.
Ironically my broadband is still up and running and when I connect a corded telehpone I can hear a dialtone.

My setup is as follows:
Master socket in office and extension in hallway.
ISP and phone provider is TalkTalk
I have swapped microfilters, taken them out but still cannot get a dialtone from the cordless phones.
I have unplugged and re-plugged everything back but to no avail.
I don't think its the phone as I have previously had the Panasonic cordless working but even that is now not emitting a dialtone. The cordless phone does seem to make the tone when the number is dialed but there no ring - which makes sense as there is no dialtone.

Found out the cause....
It turned out to be the telehpone cable from phone to wall socket!
To save pulling units out I remember I kept the phone cable from my original Panasonic cordless phone and used this cable to connect to one of the new BT phones.

But why would a telephone cable not work with different DECT phones? I thought these were just generic cables - its not that they are connected to any electrical socket. Weird!

cordless phones never used to talk to each other. panasonic wouldnt work with bt.

so you couldnt add phones to your network, so they made them dect so you can buy another model and they all work off one base station
