Vestel firmware 4.9 twin record
icutedave

Does anyone know where the twin record firmware 4.9 came from , the one thats posted on rapidshare.com
My guess is vestel posted it but how did anyone know it was there ?
The reason for the question is that if the source is found , there might be an update to 4.9 firmware on their website wherever it is , I cant find the file any where else on the net

Seems a bit of a mystery!

I e-mailed Vestel-UK a few weeks ago suggesting they make software versions available online but received no reply.

John.
Some Digihome info here

I very much doubt Vestel posted those files! In a way, it's not in their best interest not to do so, since people who do not know what they're doing can damage their box, causing unnecessary returns.

Probably the twin record firmware was leaked by somebody, and possibly not even anybody at Vestel, but maybe one of their partners (Cabot?). As I understand it, the twin record firmware requires double the amount of memory, which the Digihome does not have. Unfortunately, the memory looks to be surface mounted and not upgradable, unless the unused connector in the centre of the main PCB can help with that.

Can you advise if anything other than reduced EPG is likely to be affected by reduced memory. I aim to update to twin when I get a cable & reduced EPG is no problem. I am on 5.3.

Well, I've got one box running 5.3 and the other running 1.0 twin record. Apart from the reduced EPG I've not experienced any problems, apart from recordings tending to break up (little stutters and pauses every now and then) more than before. This happens here when recording (even when just doing a single record), and affects the recording and live tv. These remind me of the problems with single record 3.9 and earlier, so hopefully these bugs can be ironed out.

The other issue you should be aware of is http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...5&postcount=49 although I regard this as a feature rather than a bug - hopefully it will be cleaned up a little in future updates.

Although this is a fair point which Futaura has made, the workaround is very simple. If you DO want to alter the length of the recording, simply change the "EVENT" to TIMER" and you can fully edit the times. In the library, however, it will not then show the name of the program (the event) it will simply show the channel and time that recording was made.

No I have installed twin record then changed it back to single record because it slowed down mheg and teletext but it did not
effect the library at all.

Well it must be the person who first posted the firmware
who was it ?

The unused connector is for a daughter board its usually for an encription decoder then connected to a card reader , have seen this set up on many boxes in the past.
Were did you get the information about it using double the memory the firmware is not stored in the memory its usually stored on an EEPROM memory chip and the instructions commands are performed by the processor as far as I am aware and then loaded to memory (32 mb samsung chip) next to the processor.
It might be the firmware which is not refined enough as it still loads the epg which indicates thats its been loaded into memory possibly a bottle neck in the program which could be eventually fixed hopefully.

I have just updated my box to the dual record software. Easy to do too!
The menu now looks excellent, i even did a little test and recorded two channels at the same time really brilliant.
The only thing that i have noticed though when i leave the box in 'standby' the 'DVB' icon still stays on. It never used to do this.

Cracking little box, maybe even a contender for Sky+ LOL

Just a quick note if you want to keep the dual record software disable the automatic download.

Yes, the DVB icon stayed on on my Digihome a couple of days ago, and mine is unmodified!

It went away after i'd rebooted it (off at the mains and on again). Have you tried rebooting?

Agree with you about being an excellent little machine.

Yeah, I was hinting at Cabot (maybe) in a previous post. Cabot are based in Bristol and are part of the Vestel group and provide the Aurora software for the Digihome+clones. That said, it was probably a user/tester who was sent the updated firmware who uploaded it unofficially.

Would this apply to future updates after 5.3?
Does it mean dual record updating again after future OTA updates.

Could this be the source of the firmware the first post indicating that there is twin record software at www.drivehq.com
taken from pvruk

KIV
Apparently the v4.9 software is available at http://www.drivehq.com/file/
df.aspx/publish/meetoo/publicfolder and this link also has software which convert the PVR into a dual record box. DOwnlode the file, connect via rs232 at 115200 and x-modem send the update to the box. Turn the box off and on to start the transfer.

If it is hope he or she will post any future beta software for twin record.
