When Brookside is axed
When Brookside is axed alter this year, wouldn't it be a good idea for Channel 4 to start a re-run of the series from the beginning (even if only in a daytime slot)? There's probabally a lot of people who would like to see early epsiodes, and not only that, there would be an advantage. Since around 1995, Brookside has been made in 16:9, but never shown as such until 1998/99- the weekday eps were 4:3 with the omnibus being 14:9. What does everyone else think? I think it would be good, especially as there are no longer any re-runs being shown at present- the 1995/6 ones that were shoved at the pitiful time af 3AM on SKY One are no longer being shown.

Its a good idea, but I get the feeling Channel 4 hates Brookside and wants it gone as soon as possible, so sadly I doubt it will be repeated.
I also think the announcer on Channel 4 had a little dig at Brookside the other week, she said "If somthings worth watching its worth watching twice" (promoted E4's second chance Sunday) and then with a rather dull voice "But now, Brookside". Was she trying to imply that Brookside isn't worth watching?! I'm disgusted at the way Channel 4 have treated Brookside over the last 2 years with constant time changes and no doubt when Cricket returns to Channel 4, Brookside will be moved yet again. I don't hold out much hope for any repeats. |

Well we should at least have a digital channel buy the repeats and treat them well. Living showed them regular and treated them well,t he problems started when Sky One bought the rights. Hopefully we can have someone like Plus buying the rights, or if this 4Xtra channel gets off the ground, they should.

Why don't Five buy the rights and show it when Channel 4 are finished with it. It would be quite good in an 8pm slot on their channel.

I don't think Five want to buy the rights for an ailing soap few people watch now. They show two succesful soaps already, I doubt they want to have a soap that was axed by another channel because of low ratings in their schedule.

BTW, What is a 'self contained' drama? Because MerseyTV says that's what Brookside is now, not a soap.
Havn't noticed much difference except more focus on one group of characters each week - last week was the Murray family and Jimmy, Nicki and Tim. Very few other people were seen. |

Since it's been only showing at weekends I've not seen it at all as it inevitably clashes with football, so I don't know much about what's going on - I caught a bit the other day and Nikki was trying it on with Jimmy?! Where's Jerome? What happened to the wedding they were planning?

Jerome left during the seige storyline after he told Nicki that he'd sent Jimmy some emails that made him think she was in love with him.

It's a bit strange for us southerners but no stranger than the manc accent in Corrie, which I personally find worse, and I'm sure that Northerners are equally amused by the faux cockney accents in Eastenders!
By the way, why on earth would Jerome do that (send the emails?) what got into him? |

I seem to remember Brookie being good in the early days (sieges aside) with the Grants and the Corkhills fighting in the street etc etc. Then it got into some weird kind of Mafia storyline with Barry Grant and it all started to drag. But the early ones were great. In the days leading up to Trevor being killed and buried under the patio it was soap at its best.
