Eastenders, a new low tonight ?

I am a big Eastenders fan but I was seriously disapointed with todays episode. I honestly thought I had missed a few episodes as it started with Joe being on the front page saying he has been found guilty of Paulines murder, he died accidentally and Sonia is now free to go. All in 2 days ???? I know it is just a soap but surely even soaps have to be realistic to some degree. Some questions to ponder......

1. Considering Joe died, how do the police know he killed Pauline ? Because of Dot's word ?

2. Joe falls out the window and within 2 days it is considered accidental death, why ? What proof ? I bet there is a gang of pensioners out there waiting to commit murder as it seems being old means you are innocent.

3. So the police don't even consider or assume that maybe Dot or Jim murdered Joe to free their grandaughter (if that is what Sonia is) from jail ?

4. Where is Joe's long term mate Bert in all this ?

Then on to Carly. Unless I missed something Carly assumed there was a massive secret to be heard because her dad and Pat were talking in the kitchen and stopped talking when she came in ?

Sorry to pick holes but this episode really annoyed me as it seemed the most unrealistic yet, unless of course I really did miss a few episodes inbetween when Joe fell out of the window

It annoyed me too. Full of holes and badly constructed storylines.

When was the inquest, Saturday or Sunday

I really thought there had been a few episodes over the weekend that I had missed, huge leaps in the storyline.

Don't forget that as Dot tried to call the police and Joe threw the phone down she did actually dial the number and it started calling. Someone would have heard his confession and, I assume, all the goings on.

I thought exactly the same. I wondered if they had another episode on at the weekend and I'd missed it. He fell out of a window on Friday night and MOnday morning it's been looked into and decided it's accidental death? There's no way it could have been decided that quick.

too many plotholes, as blizzarduk states.

I don't agree with these posts at all.

EE jumped at least two days but I'm glad it did. I am soooooo sick of storylines dragging and dragging that at least for one episode it didn't. An awful lot of TV programmes jump like this....if you add everything up it is explained.

I didn't want to see Joes death dragged out, he took his final bow on Friday with Dot...it didn't need dragging out anymore.

As for the missing days it's pretty clear that the police were convinced that Joe killed Pauline and that is fine by me. Both Dot and Jim were witnesses to Joes death, Dot heard the confession and Jim saw him being violent with his wife. Dot's story was believed, and there was probably foresnic evidence on the infamous frying pan.

I cannot be the only one who didn't want a long 'was he or wasn't he pushed' storyline. When it was pretty clear it was an accident. I have a good imagination.

I loved Martin grovelling to Sonia. He's been a real idiot the past few weeks, very close to a breakdown....and Paulines will.... well that was Pauline.

As for Carly...she clearly stated several times that what was happening with her dad was way out of character, and it was unnerving her...especially the fact she knew it was something to do with her mother. She needed to know what was going on so she pushed till she got there.

Good episode...I loved it.

The police surely would have questioned Dot as to if she was making it up to protect Sonia!

Maybe wrong as I was waiting for BB to start but didn't Dot record the whole thing on the mobile?

I thought the episode was awful No follow through and we are just left presuming at what happened. Badly written, Badly produced. The best bit was the last 5 mins. Truley Awful EE.

I also don't like storylines that drag on - like Sonia wanting to see Rebeca, that went on FOREVER. But at least it was more real than someone dying on Friday and it being reported in the newspaper the following Monday. We're not idiots

I agree about stories dragging on but this is the equivalent of us tuning in on a Monday, with Peggy behind the bar in the Vic and saying to Pat, "Wow what a weekend that was, with Chrissie being found out to be the murderer of Den Watts, and that cheeky so and so Ian trying to buy the Vic, well we're back now and the Mitchell's are here to stay".
Cutting out about 2 weeks worth of episodes.

Actually, that might have been better.

I agree i hate long winding storylines. Even if they had a shot with dot, jim and sonia coming out of the police station then maybe that would of been more acceptable than just back to every day life. Maybe im asking too much off the poor over stressed writers

Martins been an idiot? He thought Sonia had killed his mum. Now with the best will in the world if your mum was murdered and someone was arrested for it even a loved one, human nature would make you question whether or not they did it, in fact we all as human beings point and say someones guilty before trial, take he Ipswich murders for example, and Sonia running off didnt look good either. They have BOTH been stupid even Saint Sonia of the Square - i'll be glad to see the back of them both and Rebecca.

The police knew Joe did it as the phone connected to 999, you couldnt just assume the police would believe Dot and Jim, who may just have lied to save Sonia (old people tell fibs too).

However the fact the inquest was over and done with, and the papers had all the details made me wonder just how far we had jumped on, but im glad it was all wrapped up. Joe was a dull character so didnt need a dragged out ending.

It wasn't stated how much time had lapsed between Joe dying and yesterdays episode.

What we do know is that Joe confessed to Dot (long confession), we know that the police believed Dot and Jim about Joe hence Sonia being, rightly, freed because if everyone who slapped anyone in Walford went to jail there would be no cast members left.

It's done and over...it's not the same as walking into the Vic etc as the above poster said, it was explained enough. For me anyway lol.

If they had gone down the long and tedious route of another murder plot as in....was Joe pushed or wasn't Joe pushed everyone would have been going 'OMG, no more finish it'....when to me it was pretty obvious Joe was not pushed intentionally, there was a quick tug of war over poor skinny old Dot and he fell backwards.

I am glad Paulines death is over....I want to move on to other storylines and Martin and Sonia leaving.

I also thought the picture on the front of the paper was really funny. It had a picture of Ray Brooks as Joe taken during an actual episode of the programme ie a screen shot. Not a normal photo. It looked ridiculous.

Phil Daniels has to be the worst actor in any soap. It is absolutely outrageous how bad he is. He is like a characature of his gimme gimme gimme character. Awful awful.

Shirley got a job as a cleaner in the Queen Vic. She should've got a job at Walford Undertakers. They've been very busy recently, especially with Joe falling out of the window to his death like that.

Brillaint episode last night I thought. The Storylines are moving along nicely and the quality of the show is very high now.

It was all a bit rushed and silly. Only a Coroners court can give a verdict of Accidental death and since when has it been proved that Joe was a ' murderer' Even if it was his blow that killed her, it was at the most ' manslaughter'.

EE totally unrealistic again.
