What was your favourite Torviil & Dean routine when they were competing.

For me it was Barnum. Had the lot, skillfull and so eyecatching. Liked it more than Bolero

Mack and Mabel (1982) and the Paso Original Set Pattern (1984)

That's why Torville & Dean were so good, the greatest of all time- they could do any style of ice dancing. The paso doble proved difficult for all competitors in 1984 but they made it look easy

Same as Daffodil67:

Mack and Mabel and the Paso Doble.

Bliss... bliss... bliss......

(I even bought the soundtrack to Mack and Mabel because of their routine)

I remember seeing them perform where I live in Durham. My mum got tickets for an exhibition show. I'd have been about seven at the time. The routine they performed on the night was Mack & Mabel. It was magic to watch

Now that I've found them on Youtube I can't stop watching their routines!

I think the first time we knew how special they were was when they won the European Championships in Innsbruck in 1981, and then the world championships in Hartford, Connecticut two months later.

The previous year they had finished 4th at the World Championships in Dortmund. To move from 4th to first in one year is unheard of in figure skating

Well not to diminish T&D's achievements but 1981 was a post Olympic year and at least one team ranked above them the year before had retired. Happens a fair bit after the Olys. I liked that routine a lot in 1981

Natalia Linichuk and Gannady Karponosonov retired after winning Olympic gold as did Krisztina Regoczy and Andreas Sally who took the world title but there was still the Russian duo of Irina Moisseva & Andrei Mininkov who were considered the heir apparants. So the way to the top wasn't cleared for them. They still had to beat a pair who took the silver at thw World Championships in 1980

There's something I love about every routine of theirs so It's impossible to just pick one! ( Though the first T&D routine I ever saw was the 1984 'Paso Doble' so that one will always be extra special to me - I was blown away!)

My fav routines from DOI are: 'Sing, Sing, Sing' , 'Viva Las Vegas' and the more recent 'Imagine' (love it! )

Mack & Mabel (1982), Barnum (1983), Paso Doble OSP (1984), Rhumba OSP (1994).

I liked their 'Face the Music' routine for the 94 Europeans before they 'trickified' it for the Olympics. It is true Ice Dancing. Check it out on Youtube.

Is it Ravel's music that stops Bolero being a favourite? It is for me.

I like Mack and Mabel and Barnum the most, probably even more so than Bolero.

There's so many amazing routines that picking a few stand out ones is a very tricky task.
Diablo Tango always makes me smile though, as far as comedy goes that routine was even based around Slapstick Humour and boy does it show!
You can't beat the classics, M&M, Barnum etc. but History of Love is another breathtaking Performance.
I could go on and on and on.

Imagine was one of the most beautiful ice dance routines Ive ever seen (Im no expert tho) just cause I love the song and to see them skate to it was magic.
They looked so young doing that routine as well, it's as if ten years seem to drop off the minute they get on the ice

Too, too many great routines, but the one I want to join in with, that gets my feet itching, is 'Take 5'. Pretty much everything else I just want to watch and admire for the artistry.
