Calling New Tiscali Broadband/Talk Customers...

Last month I signed up for the currently advertised £9.99 broadband/free weekend calls offer from Tiscali. I also said I wanted my line rental to be transferred over to them but this morning I've received a very confusing letter (my first from them and dated only yesterday) telling me that my calls will be transferred over to them on a specified date but *no mention of any line rental being included whatsoever*, in fact quite the opposite and urging me to register on my current providers 'basic package so you are not paying more for your line rental than you have to'!

I received a letter a few days ago from my current provider stating that the service with them was being discontinued on the date that corresponds to what Tiscali have but with the line rental remaining 'pending' according to Tiscali today (and it being over seven days since the order was placed) I'm concerned that I may be without a telephone service very soon if they don't pick it up from their end!

I phoned my other provider as well to be told that Tiscali were to take over the whole kit and caboodle *including line rental* on the agreed date, but their letter says differently so I'm just wondering if anyone else who has recently signed up with Tiscali if they've received a similarly-worded letter ahead of the transfer - that it was just to be calls and no line rental - but did it all work out fine in the end?

I've been told by Tiscali's Customer Service that it's just an error on their part and that a number of misleading letters have been sent out to new customers stating no line rental but that it's not actually the case once the transfer happens.

To add to this, I've tried to log into My Account at their website to find out more and that states it cannot recognise my log in details so I can't get any confirmation from there! I'd be interested to hear your experiences.

Why did you (possibly) allow Tiscali to take over your line rental? They charge £10.99 whereas BT charges £10.75 (payment by DD, online only billing).

In any case, the £9.99 price is only for 3 months - the price then goes up to £12.99/month and you can get free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls with Primus Saver Option 2 for no monthly fee anyway.

So, with the line rental (if you allow that to proceed), you'll not be paying £9.99 but £23.98!

It is generally agreed that it is not a good idea to move your line rental from BT even if a pound or so reduction in rental appears possible - the potential for other costs (see HERE too) and the loss of other facilities far outweighs any such 'gain'.

Tiscali are completely hopeless. I dropped them more than a year ago because they couldn't get even the simplest thing right.

I certainly wouldn't like to have a phone service from them.

Dial 999 and you'll finish up in an Indian call centre.

I agree Tiscali are hopeless

But dialling 999 will not end up in an Indian call centre, BT deals with 99.5% of emergency call, from landbased and mobile networks, they are dealt with in UK call centres, by specially trained operators.

The £9.99/£12.99p package does of course include broadband as well as Free Weekend Calls.

Taking Tiscali for phone as well is a big mistake. I was nearly two years with Tiscali for phone and in that time had two billing mistakes. My line rental was still with BT though. I was about 6 years on a Tiscali dial up package before getting a new PC and moving to broadband with BT.
Im glad to have everything with BT again and im about 98% happy with the BT service in the just over a year i have hjad everything back with BT.

I've got my line rental going back to BT very soon. I'm staggered at how bad Tiscali are for Customer Service - who knows before you join them? - and I've also requested a MAC code due to the problems I've been having with accessing the internet. At least with BT if you've got a query you're not paying to have it answered whereas with Tiscali it's Pay All The Way (and most of the time you're left wondering why you bothered calling in the first place - never a definitive answer to anything you ask, and the incompetence of the operators isn't even disguised!).

I've been billed for February and they've got me down as owing £12.76 for the broadband! Also, if Customer Services say they are going to credit you with £10 (as they have to extricate themselves from any further trouble, slimy so-and-so's), should that figure be reduced by VAT? If I take a £40 shirt back to a shop because something's wrong with it I don't expect to get less than I paid for it at the start!

They won\'t be interested, they have it in their head as everyone else is problematic.
