Hi,

I have just moved into a new flat and am trying to transfer my existing BT landline and broaband to the new address. However, when I called BT to arrange this they told me they could not do this until the line was released to them. Normally, they said they would serve notice to whoever provided the line and they would have it returned within 7 days but said they were unable to do that in this case. They were also unable to tell me who actually provides the line at the moment.

My landlord confirmed that a BT line has been used there previously as she actually lived there herself. When I dial 100 to find out the provider I get nothing, and I am unable to make calls to any other number. The property does have a Telewest phone socket, but I have called them and they say there is no active account at that address.

I am really stuck, as BT say they can't transfer my line until it is released so I have no idea what to do next!

Please help!

Something is not right here.

The landlord says she had a BT line but the socket says Telewest.

What did BT suggest to do next? I presume they are still looking into it.

Most probably the line is fully with a LLU operator like Opal telecom (talk talk) or Buldog. You will need to get the owning company to relese it back to BT or failing that, fork out for a full provide @ £124.99, thus not touching the line thats already there.
