At least they're not this fussy in the Satellite forums.

the only thing, I know a lot of people who would look at the that list and say "we wont ever get Freview then" - the reason being that they pick up tv signals from one of the 1000 smaller relay transmitters (not listed).

From that list I see BlackHill has changed from mid 2010 to March 2011 wonder why that is. Yet Craigkelly had not changed its switch off date.

Looking at the list...

Rowridge early 2012 !!!

but maybe I can swing my Unix 100 round to Mendip - early 2010...
or even Stockland Hill - early 2009 !!!

We sometimes get Mendip (and the postcode checkers say the ONLY digital we can get is one of its MUXes !!!) - so it may work with the higher powers and Stockland Hill is not much lower according to Wolfbane.

Code:
Transmitter 1, 2, A, B, C, D	Gp.	H/V	Sig.	km	Brng.	Aerial
Rowridge 23,28,30,32,26,33	A	H	47	18	115	Extra hi-gain
Salisbury 55,56,59,62,65,52	CD	V	15	19	350	Extreme outer fringe
Hannington 50,43,40,46,44,41	B	H	14	42	30	Extreme outer fringe
Mendip 59,55,62,65,56,67	CD	H	11	50	309	(Out of range)
Stockland Hill 22,28,25,32,30,34	A	H	9	60	272	Extreme outer fringe
...I assume Mendip is out of range because it is Group C/D even though it has a higher signal here than Stockland Hill.

I suspect many will be in my position - being able (??) to get DSO digital from another direction well before the 'official' date. For some it will be a tragedy - with the new signals being reflected around interfering with their current signals but insufficient to receive. I have a clear view West so I can swing an aerial that way - but Stockland Hill could cause problems in the same group if there are any co-transmissions. We just have to hope that the DSO strategy is well worked out and these problems are few and far between !

Anyone any idea what's going to happen to the Channel Isles after DSO? Will they have to go down the route of Sat or Cable as there is no DTT possible at present due to proximity to France?

I thought they were just leaving the Channel Island until last to give themselves plenty of time to sort out problems with France by then - the same with Ulster being left until the end to sort out what's happening between there and the Republic of Ireland.

They are getting a bespoke digital service in 2013 (looks like 3 muxes only). Frequencies were agreed at RRC-06.

Even if they weren't, the old transmitters could be switched off and new digital transmissions started up on the old frequencies.

Difference between Channel Islands and Ulster region is that there is a fully operational DTT service available here at present covering quite a lot of the population although there are areas where it cannot be received. You are absolutely right about reason for late date of switch off here as it is not known yet whether the Republic of Ireland will have DTT signals interfering with those here in the North or vice versa. There have been DTT tests from Clermont Carn (just across the border) but they have been on low power.

Remember that for the channel islands they are like a few small repeaters - and the power requirements are low - almost certainly lower than the levels at which the international requirements kick in. But we want to keep on the right side with the French - so any changes will be designed to fit in with them and to avoid massive interference from French DTT when they switch up their powers. Again the analogue transmitters on the CIs are also below the power levels of international obligatiobns and so don't actually have to change.

What is the take-up rate of satellite on the channel islands ? - as if it is very high then the conversion to DTT is only really political.
