Forum members may be interested to learn that the current list of confirmed dates are found just a few posts back on the bottom of the last page, because the whole original list is understandably out-of-date.

[quote]ITV West and Westcountry:
7 April 2010: Former HTV West region – Bristol and surrounding area – (Mendip and relays) coinciding with switchover. (Ridge Hill for North Gloucestershire - see ITV Central region.)

27 April 2010: East Devon, West Dorset (Stockland Hill and relays)

10 August 2010: East Cornwall (Caradon Hill and relays)

7 September 2010: Torbay, parts of South Devon (Beacon Hill and relays)

21 September 2010: North Devon (Huntshaw Cross and relays); West Cornwall (Redruth and relays)/QUOTE]

The dates seems to have changed a little in practice however. Caradon Hill already has Freeview HD as of 11th June (two months early on these dates). Does anyone know, or now how to find out, if there are any plans to move HD forward for Beacon Hill? DSO for us was April 2009 so before the end of the World Cup would be nice.

Thanks

on the 17 November 2010
As I have noted elsewhere that will not include Freeview HD.

From CTV
....when the terrestrial signal in Channel Islands is switched to digital in November this year, the infrastructure needed to carry an HD signal is not being upgraded at the same time. This is because originally it was planned to switch the Channel Islands to digital in 2013. So as things currently stand there isn't a way to broadcast a Channel Television signal in HD on terrestrial either.

Channel 4 HD, BBC ONE HD and BBC HD will certainly be available on Freeview in the Channel Islands in November but there are doubts about Channel TV HD only.

The problem CTV have is how to economically get their HD signal to the Mux and Encoding centre. ITV may not co-operate unless CTV pay handsomely. CTV opt outs like their own HD adverts would have to be inserted in London.

Once their signal is connected to the right place, it will join the others on the HD multiplex and be broadcast in the Channel Islands. But I can't see how CTV will be able to afford it. But if they can, they will save on their SD operation which could be a downscaled version of the HD feed.

See full discussion here http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s....php?t=1271266

I can only foresee ITV taking over CTV.

Yet another Tuesday without an announcement by Digital UK of switchover dates for Sheffield. It's switching in May next year and there is supposed to be at least 12 months notice of the precise date. What are Digital UK doing?

It's not going to complete switchover until 12 months after an announcement. Still no announcement for Sudbury/Talcolneston either. What on earth is going on? There's been no new dates announced since the Central ones over two months ago and Sandy Heath the week before that.

STV North dates were announced less than 12 months away.

Note that the Anglia DSO frequency details were only released two weeks ago, that document gives an indication of the running order of the switch (as certain TX's can't change frequencies before another TX moves its services out of the way). If that was only finalised recently, the current running order of DSO in Anglia is probably just being put together.

I wonder if the longer than expected work at Emley Moor is delaying the publication of final dates in that part of the world? Assuming that the engineers would move onto other transmitters to prepare for DSO once Emley is done...

Also Sheffield can't DSO before Emley Moor without a clash on UHF channel 49. Unlike with the temporary arrangement with Mux 1 at Sheffield due to the advance network HD mux at Emley Moor, the documents do not indicate any temporary parking channel for either Emley Moor or Sheffield.

Why you say Crystal Palace switches to DSO in April 2012,
when the date has not been announced yet by Digital UK?

The Channel Islands switch to DSO on the 17 Nov 2010,
but it will be treated as a Relay Transmitter,
so only two Muxes plus the HD Mux,
giving viewers only 20 SD Channels
and some HD channels as well,
if they upgrade their equipment
to the DVB-T2 and MPEG4 standard
with the Freeview HD logo on the packaging,
it should not be so much a problem here,
as they do not have Freeview here yet anyway

The rest of the Digital Switchover dates
have not yet been announced yet are
the rest of the Anglia and Central and Yorkshire Regions,
it is less than 12 months away, so why is Digital UK
dragging their feet in announcements,
is it because of the Emley Moor Transmitter?

I do not know why the announcements have been delayed
Roll on 2011 with more announcements and leaflets

You'd never guess DSO in Yorkshire is only next year because the way Digital UK have gone about it you'd think it was a decade away. We've had no leaflets, no posters, no adverts, absolutely sod all.

The initial timetable stated Sept 2011 for Emley, July 2011 for Belmont and May 2011 for Sheffield. So we may hear something about Belmont pretty soon if July 2011 is correct, being as though that's 12 months away. But as stated above, Sheffield can't switch BEFORE Emley without clashing on ch.49. and as there is no mention of a temporary frequency for either, it's now likely Sheffield and Emley will switch together instead of 4 months apart. Either that or Ofcom hasn't spotted this little hiccup yet.

Ofcom is more likely to be preoccupied with its survival. The trade rags today are indicating that up to 40% of its headcount will be axed in the autumn as part of the ConDemnation spending cuts and its policy functions will be emasculated. Therefore little trivialities such as this won't feature in their contemplations. Can't say I'm bothered as they are a bunch of overpaid quangocrats who are an overhead on citizens, consumers and the industry. Richly deserved spending cuts.

So the latest precise switchover date we've got is June 2011. So far nothing in July 2011, which would lead me to believe there may well be an announcement on Tuesday - exactly 12 months before the last Wednesday in July 2011. Belmont was always penned in for July 2011. If there is still nothing on Tuesday, then Digital UK really are taking the Michael - nearly 4 months gone without announcing any dates.

Nothing. So there's no switchover events in the whole of July 2011. DUK are useless.

Forgive me asking but why the urgency about knowing the exact dates for this when it is a year away. The area I live in Anglia has some sort of date around June next year and that is quite good enough for me. I do not need posters, leaflets, adverts to confirm this no doubt plenty of notice will be given of the exact date, the change of frequencies and retune sets, there is nothing that can be done at the present time.

The 12 month point date has been the trigger for dates on some occasions, and enables relevant organisations (local authorities, NHS trusts, care home providers etc), and businesses (from hotels to companies with TVs in the canteen area and ...erm aerial installers, for example) to start planning.

There was some concern that some dates were not being announced despite being less than 12 months away from the DSO as featured in the initial timetable.

However it is likely that most DSOs will happen in August through October 2011 across most of Yorkshire, the remainder of the Central region and parts of the Anglia region, which I have described in detail in another thread. So the initial urgency expressed is not needed.

Curious decision to libel 'ALL' installers. I would like to see your evidence. It may have been more prudent to give specific evidence to make your point rather than await the legal letters from all the honest installers.

Regarding switchover in the Yorkshire TV area, still no dates confirmed. However, I've just come across something interesting which I'm sure I have never seen mentioned on here before.

It has been pointed out that Sheffield cannot switch before Emley Moor because of a clash on ch49 - Sheffield's post-DSO Arq B with Emley's pre-DSO Arq B and no mention of a tempory parking channel. Well according to the information below, Sheffield's Arq B moves from 42 to 63 at DSO2 - 63 currently being used for BBC A until that moves to 27 at DSO1. Then sometime after DSO2, Arq B moves from 63 to 49.

In addition, Emley Moor's SDN moves from its current 43 to 52 at DSO1 - 52 being vacated by BBC A at DSO1 which moves to 47. Then at DSO2, SDN moves to 51, with Arq A taking 52. Arq B moves from 49 to 48, which is presumably when Sheffield's Arq B moves from 63 to 49. So would this suggest that Sheffield will actually switch before Emley Moor as originally planned?
