DTT Transmitter Timetable

Just out of interest - and apologies for not reading thru' 11 pages of posts (in case it has already been mentioned) - but will the transmission power of the muxes be increased at the time of switchover, or will they be left at their current levels (I receive from Sandy), or will they be increased at a later date?

Re the above The OFCOM document two posts before this one has the information currently available about Sandy Heath. The DUK document quoted by J Welby does not. It concentrates more on Tacolneston and Sudbury.

Mendip is using the ITV1+1 launch retune as an opportunity to change the mode of Mux D to Arq B from 2k 16QAM to 8k 64QAM on a new frequency UHF 67. ERP is being increased to 26kW to keep the received signal strength roughly the same as before. The retune date is on or after 11/1/11. Source DUK email. Note this frequency will change again on 28/9/11 to a final allocation of UHF52 along with changes to Mux A / SDN & Mux C / Arq A.
Obviously this is Arqiva favouring itself over the other commercial multiplex operator, so that it can bring $ky Sports 1 & 2 to Mendip. A rather overlooked conflict of interest. I expect Ofcon will fail to investigate. |

At the time, most people couldn't afford a colour TV. In any case, there was no sudden change over to colour. Many programmes were still made in black & white until at least the early '70s. The old VHF 405 line black & white TV transmitters (BBC1 and ITV) were finally switched off in 1985, by which time everyone had gone over to 625 line UHF, if not colour. Chris. |

Unfortunately I'm old enough to remember when colour TV first started. The first to transmit was BBC2 in 1967 (Wimbledon). BBC1 and ITV (officially) went colour / UHF 625 lines in November 1969 (from a few main transmitters only).

NI's DSO. Unconfirmed dates are now April 2012 (Limavady) September 2012 (brougher) and November 2012 (Divis) and not the 31st March 2013 date on UK Free. Now is the time for advanced publicity for this event, in my opinion and not several months before it happens. |

I imagine it's being complicated by the 7th mini mux being tied in with the Republic's DTT plans and the fact that Eire has no government and more importantly no money.
It may indeed be more to do with the mini mux that's going to carry Saorview Lite, along with the Caldbeck problems. The March 2013 date was on UKFreee for quite a while, but this has now changed to date unknown. I noticed the Ofcom statement has the end of 2012 so the november 2012 date is probably now correct, although not confirmed. The new mast at Divis has also been completed well ahead of schedule and you can now see the two masts at the site while driving through the city. The old mast is also staying and will carry the new RTE multiplex along with the existing VHF radio. |

UTV (Divis) is December 31, 2012, according to OFCOM to coincide with the Irish Republic. But as the new mast at Divis has been completed early it could be ahead of schedule. I hear the old mast is being retained for RTE DTT services.

Actually, I had heard rumours it was the end of November, as aopposed to UK Free's projected date which was 31st March 2013 (still seems an awful long way off). Nov. 2012 isn't just as bad. The new mast can be seen quite clearly when driving through the city now . As you say, the old one isn't going to be decommissioned and will be used for the proposed new mini RTE mux, along with existing analogue radio services. |
