They have things easy here in the US of A!
They get a digital converter that basically changes the digital signals to analogue so that you can tune your TV into them. It costs $49.99 same price everywhere, and you mail in a coupon to get $40 back from the government.
Or you can have a cable or satellite deal that is reduced in price for 3 or 4 years and subsidised by the government.

Jersey was actually brought forward - it was originally mooted for March 2013, now it's the end of 2012 I think. I'm not sure that is officially confirmed yet, there was a news article not long ago - a search on the forums should pick it up.

Yeah I posted it a page or two back in here.

My whinge being it will happen sometime in the far off never never yet no-one official seems to take in interest in actually pushing the discussions on. The analogue signal where i live is terrible anyway so I've had Sky for years, although it would be nice to have an alternative to Sky too....

Anyway, enough about me.....

who still thinks lots of people will want freeview by 2012?
You can now have Freesat, as well as freesatfromsky, or a subscription service from Sky or Cable,
or theirs gated internet tv via things like BTvision (which also has freeview decoding inside),
or you can go the whole way with things like iTunes movie downloads over broadband, and with the option to display them on your LCD/Plasma tv in HD (provided you have a fairly quick Broadband connection).

If I had to wait until 2012 for freeview (eg, stuck with just 4 analogue channels until that point intime), I think I would choose a different option.

I notice that the another Transmitters power will go up by 19 times after after they go full digital. is this for all transmitters including mine, Winter Hill? Also has Winter Hill increased its power over the last year as I have a 7in portable reciver and for two years I could hardly recive any channels localy but now its far, far better.

Also I was in France in June and took my 7in portable with me and found many channels even with my small arial I was able to pick up all the available channels, I could move the arial in any direction and never lost the signal, I was in the Le Mans area Is digial TV in France far in front of the UK?

Nowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Your being silly

Apart from Ireland being in the way and the power of local TV stations at I think Freeman Point in the Channel Islands not being that strong you wont get much out there except via satellite although I'm not so sure about if SABRE would make to much of a difference??

If the power of many transmitters are to be increased after full digital switchover, is it easy to know now which will be the best transmitter if you happen to live an overlap area.

I'm thinking of the Mansfield area in Nottinghamshire where there is a large overlap between Belmont, Emley Moor and Waltham. Currently the BBC in particular include all our news in East Midlands Today from the Waltham transmitter and refuse to believe that the majority of homes in Mansfield actually recieve thair TV from Belmont and Emley Moor. We receive no local news from Look North. ITV Yorkshire do cover the area quite well but when ITV cuts local news we will probably receive no local news.

All of the post code checkers seem to suggest that Belmont and Emely Moor will be our best choices and that Waltham will be even more difficult than it has been for analogue.

Digital UK has announced the date for the digital switchover in north-west England. Three million homes across the north-west will start switching to digital on 4 November 2009 when analogue signals are turned off at the Winter Hill transmitter group (the Granada TV region). More

It is not as simple as that. For example in Mendip, the three commercial muxes are currently on 10kW but after DSO the power will not be increased except in 2011 to 12.5kW and only to 100kW in 2012. So only after 2012 when aerials have already been realigned will it be possible to know whether you can receive all the muxes or not.

But the three PSB multiplexes will transmit 100kW from DSO on channels in the same C/D aerial group.

You may not be able to receive the 3 COM muxes before 2012 - but you will know if it will be possible, if you test with PSB-1 or PSB-2 just after DSO.

Mendip is the the worst example I have seen, yet.

In the fringe Mendip area, installers would do just as well aligning to local relays and then having another go in 2012 on the main TX. There is no guarantee that successful reception of commercial muxes can be achieved using just the PSB muxes for alignment. Basic rule of aerial installing.

Other examples:-

Caldbeck (Border) COM muxes will be on just 15kW until 2012 when they increase to 50kW.

Winter Hill (Granada) the second NGW mux will operate at just 12.5kW until 2011 when it increases to 100kW.

Moel-y-Parc has 2 COM muxes affected until 2011.

Preseli has all COM muxes affected until 2010.

Stand by for more "Why can't I get Film4?" type complaints until 2013.
