In an annoucement published less than 24 hours before the switchover reaches the Moel-Y-Parc transmitter group, the move of the digital multiplexes from Moel-Y-Parc to their new frequencies will not be complete until 2nd December, not the previously announced 25th November 2009.

Viewers receiving from Moel-Y-Parc direct will need to do a third retune on 2nd December to complete the switchover. Relays will complete switchover at the previously advertised time.

Stage 1: (BBC-A launches; Multiplex 1 closes, BBC2 Analogue closes) 28 October
Stage 2: (D3&4 launches at relays, moves frequency at Moel Y Parc; remaining analogue closes) 25 November
Stage 3: (Old multiplex A,C,D close; new mode SDN/ArqA/ArqB launches) 2 December

Note that neither the DUK consumer version or the public version of the installers information (none available for MyP group BTW) currently has this information available on IE, Chrome, Safari or Firefox. DUK caught on the hop: what a shambles!

The BBC announced the full roll-out schedule on the 16th November. Initial service starts on the 2nd December 2009 at Winter Hill and Crystal Palace transmitter, however only for users in the trade and box testers. The service being rolled out at transmitters from March/April will be available to domestic users, when boxes will become commercially available.

Main transmitters serving key urban areas will then follow, mostly with a low powered directional service until switchover. Transmitters undergoing switchover from March 2010 onwards will get Freeview HD at that point. Transmitters in areas where switchover has already occurred will be upgraded to broadcast the Freeview HD service between June 2010 and November 2010, beginning with Wales followed by the South West then the Borders & Isle of Man. The exception is the Stockland Hill transmitter group serving East Devon and West Dorset which will go live in April.

Digital UK information released last month confirmed that only the main Winter Hill transmitter would launch with Freeview HD at stage 2 of the switchover. The Winter Hill relays start the process of upgrading previously switched transmitters - almost in reverse order of the switchover (Wales then South West then Border) - from March onwards.

Low power Freeview HD begins in London on 2nd December. High power Freeview HD (on BBC B mux) begins in Manchester on 2nd December (and only from Winter Hill), and this is a trial for the BBC B mux before start of rollout in March for the whole Granada region, and the post DSO regions and then to follow with DSO schedule (as above). . I wouldn't do a retune, because viewers will not be able to receive any of the services on current receivers & TVs.

The reason for the low power Freeview HD is to have the service available in large populations, to test interleaved spectrum and to provide HD for the World Cup in June/July 2010 on DTT. World Cup 2006 was used for marketing in the launch of HD services on Satellite & Cable.

I should point out that in ITV Central the HD service moves from Lichfield where it will be a low-powered directional service to Sutton Coldfield in September 2011 where it will be a full power omnidirectional service. My earlier post does not make that clear.

The timetable for switchover to digital terrestrial TV has been confirmed. Switchover takes place on Wednesday 17th November 2010.

Currently only analogue terrestrial television is available in the Channel Islands. After switchover, the Channel Islands will receive the "Freeview Lite" service, which includes the BBC's SD services on multiplex BBC-A; ITV/Channel Television and Channel 4's main services, plus Five on multiplex D3&4 and the PSB HD services on mux HD.

Channel 4 HD now testing on freeview channel 52 (UHF channel 54 if viewing from Winter Hill).. Test card costisting of C4 HD logo with moving colours and the HD part of the logo also moving. No audio. Launches on MOnday 29 March.

ITV1 HD also "testing" with full programmes from London. Caption advising of "your regional programme is on ITV1" has ceased, last seen on Wednesday 24 March.

Digital UK have confirmed the switchover timetable for the STV Central region:
Torosay - South West Highlands and Islands - 13/10/2010*
Darvel - Parts of Central Scotland, Argyll and Bute - 11/05/2011
Rosneath - Rosneath area - 11/05/2011
Craigkelly - Lothian, parts of Edinburgh and Fife - 01/06/2011
Black Hill - Glasgow, Central Scotland and parts of Edinburgh - 08/06/2011

*Torosay was announced after STV North dates were confirmed.

The above dates are stage one dates (when BBC Two analogue goes and the high powered BBC mux goes on air). Stage 2 is always 14 days later, when the remaining analogue channels are switched off, and the other post-switchover digital muxs go live. At stage 2, Freeview HD becomes available for all transmitters (DVB-T2 receiver required), except at Black Hill when the existing advance network service goes to full power and on a new frequency.

http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i_switch/stv_central

Previously, Digital UK had stated between April and June for the bulk of the STV Central transmitters. We see that switchover takes place during the latter period of that quarter.

Digital UK have announced when switchover will start in the ITV Anglia region.

The stage one switchover date for the Sandy Heath transmitter covering mainly Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire: 30 March 2011.

http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i_switch/anglia

Stage two date (and the start of Freeview HD transmissions) is now usually two weeks later, but not yet confirmed.

The dates for the other transmitters in the Anglia region are as I post this message not yet public on the above site.

Thanks. I may add a second aerial pointing that way if it means I can get HD a year earlier.

Digital UK have announced when switchover will start in the ITV Central region at some of the transmitter groups.

Nottingham the Nottingham area - 30 March 2011
Bromsgrove the Bromsgrove area - 6 April 2011
Lark Stoke Stratford upon Avon area - 6 April 2011
Ridge Hill Herefordshire, south Shropshire and parts of Gloucestershire - 6 April 2011
The Wrekin north Shropshire and south Cheshire - 6 April 2011

These are stage 1 switchover dates. Stage 2 dates (and the Freeview HD launch date) are two weeks later.

Bromsgrove, Lark Stoke and The Wrekin will operate in a Single Frequency Network, the commercial multiplexes look set to change at a later point in time.
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv/ifi/tech/...l_DSO_v2.0.pdf

At Ridge Hill, stage 2 of the switch will give ITV West to viewers in north Gloucestershire.

Sutton Coldfield, Waltham, Oxford and Fenton are to be confirmed.

More info:
http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/when_do_i_switch/central
http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/__data/as...April_2010.pdf

Viewers receiving from Waltham should note additional retunes ahead of the still to be confirmed switchover date, due to temporary use of DTT parking channels. See the Digital UK postcode database for details at your location.

All Wednesdays again. If switchover is supposed to be done when people can contact aerial installers etc, wouldn't it make more sense to do it on a Monday to give them all week? I don't understand the logic of mid-week?

Switching over on Monday morning would mean extra staffing costs, as engineers would have to travel over the weekend to be on site Sunday night for the switch. Midweek is supposed to strike the right balance between cost of providing the switchover service and the provision of help and support for the public. Most retune events on Freeview occur midweek at 12:00 noon for a similar reason and the engineers can start the week preparing for the change, executing the change midweek, and be on standby for any problems that might occur Thursday/Friday, before going off for the weekend!

I'm surprised DUK haven't set a date for switchover for Sheffield and Oliver's Mount in Yorkshire yet. They're due to switch next May, which is now less than a year away. I thought dates were given a year in advance?

It is funny though that most of the STV Central switchover dates are at the same time, despite initially being done in late 2010. I wonder if this means DSO in Yorkshire will be pushed back later now? It's the only region due to switch in 2011 that hasn't got a schedule yet.

If your transmitter is not on the list, then an official date has not been formally announced yet.

Further retunes at currently unconfirmed dates:
¬ Additional retune in 2011.
# Additional retune following completion of DSO in Central Scotland.
* Additional retune once Sutton Coldfield completes DSO

I notice in the press release for Central DSO dates on 20 April it says "STRICTLY EMBARGOED until 0001 20 April". Are switchover dates a top secret until formally announced?
