Brookside moving to late nights...?
Chris E
26-02-2003
According to another forum the Daily Mirror is reporting that Brookside will soon be moved from it Saturday afternoon slot, to a late night slot.

Phil Redmond has ben asking for a late night slot for years so they can show more swearing, violence, sex etc.

Don't know if this is a good or bad move.

Perhaps they should consider two 45 minute weeknight episodes at around 11pm, better than the current hour and half on Saturday set up.

Apparantly the late night slot, if it goes ahead, will be the last chance to save the show, so theres still a bit of hope.

If the late night does go ahead, it will be just like Night & Day- they will be getting it out the way until they can finally get rid of it.

Its actually Phil Redmond who wants the late night slot, not Channel 4 so he must be pretty confident it'll work better than the Saturday afternoon showing.

it will be no good if he gets a slot after 11.30 which i think he may!

They will just do what ITV are doing with night & Day.

I think this is a good idea, havent watched brrokside for quite a while, got fed up of the bad acting and weird story lines, but if they are aloud swearing etc, it will become more beleivable and should turn into compulsive viewing !

The problem with Brookie's Saturday slot is that many people are out doing other things, and forget to video it - myself included. Hence the ratings will drop, just like C4 want, so they then have a cast-iron excuse to kill it off.

A late night slot, whilst not being ideal, would at least provide a chance to make some storylines more juicy and hopefully inject some sparkle into it.

Hope it happens.....

Do they still have that dreadful 'new improved' theme tune? I remember the original from when I was about 6 and have done ever since. That memory was taken away when they foolishly manipulated it.

Does still exist on each episode?

Yes they still have the revamped theme tune.

Brooksides actually doing well in the Saturday afternoon slot, and is some cases has been the most watched programme of the day on Channel 4. Even big programmes like Boys And Girls fail to beat Brookie's 1.6 million viewers, and when you consider that its up against sport on BBC One and football on Sky, and many people will be out shopping etc.. thats a really good figure.
