Good portable MP3/CDplayer?
I have been thinking about getting one of those Portable MP3 players that play CDs with MP3s on as well as regular CDs not for home use as i already have a decent CD player and play MP3s on the computer but would be nice for when im on the bus or to fill some time in between lessons at university
so far i have seen one that looks pretty good from Special Reserve for only £39.99 which does seem a excellent price anyway does this one sound ok? or are there any other players you would reccommend? i have a pretty limited budget really dont want to spend more than about £60 but as i said its not for home use so dont need spectacular sound quality basically just need CD and MP3 CD compatibility, reasonable battery life (preferably rechargable), reasonably small also would be nice if it had headphones, i do have a decent pair but they are the big can style ones and a little too big to be carrying around all the time |

Whilst there's no doubt thats an attractive price.
The main issue with these sort of product for me is how good is the navigaion scheme menu and does it support ID tags. A CD full of MP3s is a lot of music to find you way round. It doesn;t look like that one supports ID's tags since it says "LCD display shows track number and time " so no helpfull track names and/or directory names on the display Do you think you''l be able to remember what track no 236 is a week after youv'e burned the cd - know I wouldn't A couple of years ago I bought the iRiver 1 ( aka Rio Volt) ( 'bout £140), very good product, which was flash upgradable, and had a very active user group and responsive manufacturer who incorporated may users suggestions. - The eventual result was the iRiver2 ( make sure yu go for the iRiver version not the Rio SP250 version) If i was to buy CD based again i would go for its later brother iRiver2 not sure of its currnet price maybe 120 ish but there are ( were) cut down cheaper variants of this available SP90 etc for less than £100 I did also buy a couple of cheaper Goodmans (CDMP350) ones for the children, no problem with the sound but menu system is no where near as easy to navigate round, athough it does support ID tags just my 2p worth If you decide to go for one let us know how how you find it The Rio Volt has ( and still does) serve me well but where I to buy now I think i would go for a HDD based unit. - but of course thats at a different price level EDIT : just checked round the sp90 is now down to 70 ish Would recommend you go for this - you won't be disapointed ( other than it doesn't do recharging) here is the manual for the SP90 - look at the posters Last edited by chrisbartley : 05-03-2003 at 10:44. |
