Tiscali do seem to generally aim for the cheapest price. I agree that all this new competition will make things much more interesting, although I want HD more than lower prices. Quote:

One thing it does scream out to me is that i find it hard to belive now that Tiscali will ever be able to score the rights to all the movie channels and also sky one etc! It is such a shame as they would, along with the new PVR be a very nice complete package! I think it may have to be the Sky route as I can guarentee they are unlikely to lose content, although if VM keep sky one etc they will be cheaper overall? Tiscali on the other hand are looking to be very very cheap! I love VMX and would love C1 if their programming was better! And movies now is a fantastic addition to anyones digital TV platform. Its so very sad that HC just could not make more of what they had early on, get a national roll out and even be the pioneers of HD TV! We know the technology is there but I think it all came down to money! I want sky sports and movies and a PVR, i'd like Sky one bravo etc so.... if I stay with Tiscali I will be shelling out around £24.99 with TV, broadband and phone? Not bad with loads of VOD, maybe setanta, maybe flextech channels, maybe 4OD, but prob never sky one etc. If I add sky by wire i'm looking at £50 p/m and I will get my PVR and HD by July 2007 With Sky I get PVR, and all channels including sport movies, phone and broadband for around £50 and get sky one bravo etc With Virgin at their VIP package £85 I get PVR, VOD, all flextech and sky sports movies, TV, phone and broadband + mobile! for £85.......... Decisions decisions! |

Been on the VM
http://allyours.virginmedia.com/webs...oose-bundle.do to be honest it is possibly not that cheap afterall. The package for quad play, TV, BB, and phone with sports + movies will be £61 you then have to pay £15 for having a V+ box and then of course your BT line rental of £11 pm You get everything for that but BB is only 2mb and that total is £89 p/m!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A huge figure, obviously with Sky you are looking at Sky + no extra charge p/m and all those channels with 2mb broadband and phone = £43.50 p/m!!!! I think I may have a winner! Sky is clearly driving down prices.. |

Not bad! On the negative side I believe the only HD channel VM have is BBC. This would change you'd imagine, but how long will it take? Additionally it may be a slim chance, but Setanta are obviously beginning to try and muscle in on the sports franchises, with them have a number of matches from next season. It could be worth hanging fire a couple of months to see what agreement Sky and Setanta come to over mutual viewing of the matches for their customer bases, as you would not want to have to start subscribing to Setanta too (unless you a big GAA fan :-p) as they're pretty expensive in themselves. |

Sky+ features on an HD box are activated as part of the HD subscription no matter what the package.
Sky+ only boxes need the £10 if you don't subscribe to "enough" |

Your question is more likely to be though whether you feel you require it. Welcome! Have Tiscali told you anything yet about what they might be doing? If the HC is anything to go by you will get a decoder box which takes the place of your ADSL Modem. The box has a SCART socket (not RF aerial) and an RJ45 Network Connection which you use to connect to the PC. You therefore need to make sure that both the TV and PC can reach that box. If your ADSL modem is also a router (to connect multiple PCs) you face the prospect of having to replace it as the connection to Tiscali will be via the box instead. Have a look around this forum for more info... |

just read an article concerning braodband triple play in the sunday paper today. the article relates to virgin/ntl, sky and homechoice.
quoting exactly from the article. "homechoice currently only in 40,000 homes is cheaper than other deals, at £27.99 a month, including line rental, but only has 35 channels. The service will be renamed Tiscali TV on march 1 and will offer of the lowest cost triple play packages- 2mb broadband, line rental and free weekend calls for £19.99" Well this all sounds cheap but then if you want 8 meg and unlimited calls i wonder what the price will then be? currently for 8 meg, the base tv pack, unlimted calls and the line rental the total each month is £42.99. It will be interesting to see if this comes down under the tiscali brand and also if they offered the many times promised broandband and phone only bundle. to compare the current price for 2 meg broadband is £17.99 which gives you free evening and weekend calls, add the line rental your looking at £27.99 so with the new pack thats an instant price drop of £8. compare this to what tiscali currently offer. 8 meg broadband and unlimted phone calls for £21.99 a month. add your line rental at around £10, though theres rumours the line rental will be bundled as part of the package it certainly seems the best offer for those that already have sky of freeview. In the meantime i'll be phoning HC to get my next month free as i was promised new packages by feb 11th, and as this didnt happne im gonna push for another month free to the march 1st date |

Doing a bit of scouting around I see Tiscali have started embedding the Homechoice pages into their own site
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/entertainme...s-now-old.html http://www.tiscali.co.uk/music/vmx/index.html I think I've also found the main page! http://www.tiscali.co.uk/members/mya...-benefits.html http://www.tiscali.co.uk/members/mya...iscali-tv.html |

Sky One will not be available in the basic pack, but a catch-up TV service for BBC channels and a further 100 hours of on-demand programming including US imports will be included. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitalt...h-march-1.html does this mean that Sky One will eb available in other packs then?????? |

So, just out of interest, how much of that 2mb broadband gets eaten up by the TV streaming?
I get the 4mb but distance from exchange means I only really get 3mb and then the TV takes out 2.6mb leaving .4 for the internet. Last edited by Mus1 : 25-02-2007 at 10:44. |

currently hc are offering 2mb and 4mb broadband only packages, whats interesting is tiscali are currently doing 8 meg broadband with unlimited anytime calls for special offer until july for £17.99.
Asked HC abut this and they are looking into it and hinted that whatever packages are currently available on tiscali will be available on HC. also an update on the HC/tiscali letter that stated about lower prices. Mine listed the monthly reduced cost as being £32.99 which is the same as what i pay now. enquired with HC and this INCLUDES the £10 line rental so in fact its a saving of £10.. well its a start now if i can just get the broadband and phone package i'll be happy |

According to
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/members/mya...-channels.html C1 (not just taste C1) will be included in the base pack! Can't be a bad thing. |

Backs up my theory that the "100 hours of VOD" Tiscali keep mentioning will be a usage cap rather than a restriction on content...

According to this information, we'll be losing MTV unless we subscribe to the music pack whereas before, it was included as part of the big pack.
Am I understanding that correctly? http://www.tiscali.co.uk/members/mya...-channels.html
