No, nope, stop! I hope this catches you in time. There have been lots of complaints about these boxes. It's a hit'n'miss affair as to whether you get a good one or a duff one. There have been a fair few disgruntled people on this forum and others after buying one of these from DABS.
Great price I'll give you that, but if the DUAL from ASDA isn't an option then go for Argos.
if its a dud then it goes back for a refund, Sky+ doesnt go off til near the end of the month so I wont need one to 'rely' on til then..
Ok fair enough. Just make sure DABS don't require you to pay for it to be returned, and that they refund in full, including postage.

Perhaps they should have a look at the reviews on the Dabs website before ordering, but not the first page of reviews, go to page 3

perhaps they have, and perhaps they have also read the other reviews that state about poor packaging but in general are happy with the product, yes it seems Dabs idea of 'refurb' might differ from a company such as Apple(whos refurb store is excellent) but hey, they might end up and a perfectly functional unit that they are more than happy with....
of course if it ends up me getting a shoddy box that is obvious was a known issue and Dabs are clearly being lax I shall be getting a full refund and I will ask my sister(retail law) if Dabs are breaking any rules..
It seems to me that the hardware in the Digihome box is working very close to the "edge" and normal tolerances in components mean some boxes work well, others not so well.
Signal strength can probably have a dramatic effect on overall reliability because of the way digital tv error correction works - a poorer signal makes the processor work harder so close-to-tolerance components push the design limits: The master clock stops oscillating so everything stops, picture jumps, recordings skip.
No doubt the reburbished boxes work fine in a temperature controlled refurbishing shop with near 100% signal strength and may, or may not, work fine when re-sold.
The Digihome has cracking software (much better than the Humax, in my opinion) - shame it's been let down by scrimping on the hardware specs for the sake of a few quid.

right then...
box arrives day after order which is good as I only paid for the cheapest 1-3 day service.
yes I would have liked to see an outer box but the box has no damage and in good clean condition, upon opening the unit is in protective bag and poly inserts are in tact and secure, no scart lead but their is instructions, quick guide, rf lead, remote with batteries and of course the unit, which is in good clean and as new condition.
set up and plugged in I am greeted with a first time installation screen and it sets up easily and without fuss, the HDD was clean.
I have had it set up for a couple of hours now and *touch wood* all seems fine, have done a few test recordings and I see no clipping or anything when watching a different channel while recording another, and I love the PIP feature on this box, my TV has PIP but that is for 2 separate signals so I have never experienced PIP from a single unit, why SKY+ does not offer this I dont know.

so am I a lucky one? maybe, or have Dabs recieved so many complaints that they have done something about it? lets hope so.
