Is the PVR80/160 one of these?

Is the Digihome actually a rebadged Vestel PVR 6000 CI?
See this link to the Vestel box on their online shop.

I only ask because I've got a firmware file for the Vestel PVR 6000 CI and was wondering what would happen if it was loaded onto the Digihome....

I'm still pondering whether or not to buy a Digihome so can't test it myself.

Yep that's the one! Impressive boxes for the price, not dared to try and update yet witht the unofficial software, it works well as it is and i am a coward!

The file size is 2.11MB, which is nearly twice the size of the dual record file, so if it did work in the Digihome PVR's, I don't think there would be much space left for the EPG, based on how the dual record update performs.

well, i've taken the plunge and bought a PVR160 on eBay for £74 so i'll try flashing it myself once it arrives

i've flashed other devices to death before

Before you flash it, could you see if you can copy the resident file loaded into the machine back to your computer, this information would be useful to save a copy of v5.3 before further experiments.
I have tried to do this without success, but I am not an expert

From the hardware spec, i'm not sure why this would be a problem. The flash memory is 4mb and this is just for firmware. The EPG would be loaded into some, or all, of the 32mb DDRRAM. I think the issues with the dual record firmware are due to it's operational use of the DDRRAM rather than the size of the firmware file itself.

Not sure why they don't write the EPG data to the HD (like Fusion, Thomson etc). ..

The reason is probably that the hard drive on the Digihome boxes only kicks in when recording, possibly to cut down on running costs, to preserve the hard disk, and reduce noise. If the EPG was stored on the hard drve, the drive would have to be running to access it.

Good point.

Back on the subject of the Vestel PVR 6000 CI, I found this page which appears to say it records two channels: "Simultaneous different channels save to make : Yes "

The bottom of that page seems to say that it is a satellite receiver.

That could be a problem
