Any ideas what I can do. My SE w800i joystick is quickly becoming unusable. It won't go up or back at all, and bearly moves right now. Its about 15 months old and I've got 3 months of contract left.

Unless you have 24 months warranty, it's going to cost to have it repaired.

Could it not be argued that at only 15 months old, it hasn't lasted as long as could reasonably be expected?

Nope, 12 months warranty is 12 months.

well known problem
it can often be fixed (at least for a while) by removing the cover and squirting contact cleaner into the joystick block while moving it around (then blowing it out with an airline if poss) you can also get results with wd40 but watch where you get it and clean it away from pcb after.
if still no good then it would be about £20 to have a new one fitted

you only need the t6 to remove front cover
instructions here but you dont need to take the back off (and risk breaking the camera switch)
