Lily has debuted at #20 in the Billboard album chart this week!

I've never taken much notice of her as a singer to be honest, although Smile is catchy. I'm aware sales are low at this time of year, but still, well done.

Smile has made a high debut and she has been on SNL, just look at the stats on Youtube! For Smile!

Impressive Youtube stuff. Looks like she'll sell a few records over there. Don't know if Smile is quite THAT good though!

My friends equally dislike her too.
She's terrible.

How does she get anywhere with that crap she calls 'music'?

Totally overrated, with far too much to say for herself.

To be fair it does appear to sell, although I've only heard two of her songs to be honest and remain to be convinced by her voice.

The Billboard standard obviously isn't what it used to be!

20 Allen*Lily Alright Still 34,267 999 177 34,467

35k is hardly impressive though, not bad of course but James Blunt, Corinne Bailey Rae etc went platinum, lily allen will be lucky to sell 100k

Good on her.

I loe Lily Allen, she has a really pretty voice, and I wish her all the success in the world.

You lot shouldn't be so mean! Celebrate it. Jesus it's gotta be better than James Blunt's US success.

A #20 debut and 35,000 copies is really nothing to write home about. She did okay considering I haven't seen any promotion for her music here.

I must admit, to begin with I absolutely hated Lily Allen, her tunes were just too poppy for my liking whereas I am more into my rock music.

However, after listening to her album at a mates house, I loved it and went out and bought it for myself immediately. It is probably the 1st pop album I've ever bought.

Good luck to her I say.

A #20 debut is impressive enough for a singer not particularly even rated here by most music fans.

Good luck to her its always nice to see a British artist get some success in the us.
Sounds to me that their seems to be a certain amount of jealousy because of her success in this thread,or are you just chav haters.

I generally hate chart pop music but I have to be honest, I adore Lily Allen. The great lyricist IMO. Although I am surprised she's doing well in the US, her music is quite parochial.

Love Lily Allen. Breath of Fresh Air. none of this RnB or overproducted nonsense. Smile is a classic pop-song. Great image as well.

Alright, still. Is a great album my most played of last year (and this so far!)

Not suprised at her US success they love their ska over the west coast some of lily's tunes remind me of the new-wave-ska of early no doubt and sublime with the calypso interludes and such.

It will be intresting to see how the album dose in the long run, 20 is a fairly decent debut for a british artist with a very british album and not that much airplay or promotion although sales are pretty low at this time of year so it didnt take much to get into the top 20.

Corinne and Kt are both heading towards 1m now over there but both started off slow, Corinne i think debuted just a few places higher than Lily and Kt i dont even think she made top 30 originally possibly even lower than that.

Agreed, I say good luck to her. but since when has a privileged, public school educated daugther of a rich and famous actor and a film bigwig mother been a 'chav'?

Why would people be jealous of her (So called) success?
If you look at it that way, wouldn't we be jealous of just about anyone who's ever had a hit record?
Her success has nothing to do with it. The music she unleashed to the public should have been left tucked away in the studio vaults.

She hasn't brought anything new to the table.
Like herself, her music's run of the mill typical pink pop fluff that's aimed at the record buying teens. She's no different to millions of other girls who's come and gone over the years. She's bland, boring, dull and unoriginal.

Nothing to get excited about.

"I could see it in your face when you give it to me gently,
Yeah, you really must think you're great,
Let's see how you feel in a couple of weeks,
When I work my way through your mates."
