Reconnection of phone line.

Hello,

My friends are wanting to have their phone line reactivated so they can subscribe to an ISP for the net.
The phone line was cut off a while ago because the phone bill couldn't be paid.

What needs to be done in order to get the phone line back up and running (bill paid off aswel)?
Looking on the BT site i cannot see any mention of what needs to be done in a case like this. I am hoping that the bill and reconnection can be done over the net but i guess BT will have to be called.

Any ideas?
Thanks

If it was a BT Retail line and it is BT Retail doing the reconnection then they will be charged a £35.25 inc VAT reconnection fee if BT Retail ceased the account for non-payment.

Best to pay off the bill first as BT Retail will normally offer Pay & Call to customers with accounts ceased for non-payment and Pay & Call is not normally compatible with ADSL.

You could try telling them you've been on cable and want to come back to BT - might work

Thanks for the replies,

I forgot to mention the house is a council house and that their dad and mum seperated, their dad signed the lease over to their mum.

Also their dad went bankrupt last year, so is it possible bt took the money needed to pay the bill through the courts?

As my friend is going to have the account in his name he is technicly a new customer and therefore shouldnt have to pay the amount that was due, the phone line was disconnected over two years ago so maybe bt have waved the bill?

Probably a load of wishful thinking .

Thanks

Afraid it is.

BT would have sent the debt to a collections agency.

When your friend phones up they will have to go through a credit check and if they lived at the address when the debt was raised that may affect them.

If they lived elsewhere, were on the electoral role etc then they should be okay.
