Nokia 1600 Data Cable Help

I have just recieved my data cable and I am having trouble with the connection between the phone and my laptop. My laptop recognises the cable but thats about it.
Can anyone help please?

I may be totally wrong here but.....

From what I can see reading the manuals etc on the Nokia website I get the impresion that the 1600 has no data functions of any kind. It certainly isn't listed as being supported by the Nokia PC Suite see...

And you really need the PC Suite to use the data cable properly in my experience of Nokias.

Nokia 1xxx and 2xxx are not compatible with PC suite or data cable.

If you go to this webpage...

http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4221246

you will discover two things.

1/ There is no Data Cable listed that matches the model numbers or the pictures shown on the ebay link.
2/ If you search for accessories by Phone and select the 1600 it does not list "Data" as one of the possible options. Contrast that with say the 6130 I have which does have a "Data" accessories option.
